The Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose a third-round selection in next year's draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996 and '98. The penalties were set in an agreement between the league, the Players Association and the Broncos and resolve a case against the team brought before the sport's special master by the NFL's Management Council in January 2003, the league announced.

The penalties could be viewed as further vindication for Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, who has said in the past that Broncos owner Pat Bowlen should be suspended for salary cap violations. Davis has contended that the Broncos' circumvention of the salary cap helped them win the Super Bowl in the 1997 and '98 seasons.

Bowlen said in a written statement released Thursday by the Broncos that the club gained no competitive advantage from these cap violations.
Then why did you do it, Bowlen?

Is he a child molester or are you just using the molestation of children as a way to get feel goods on a football forum?

Asking for a cop.

Huh, KC was penalized more for tampering with Maclin than Denver was for "Salary Cap Gate". Interesting.

I bet. Probably no comparison to a team going back to back, winning a championship on a rival fan’s field, then watching Aleway have to deliver the trophy to the best quarterback to ever play the game.

We will never know those heights, unfortunately. Happy for you though! What an accomplishment!

Remember when Denver fans were insulted when we dared say Mahomes is a better QB than Elway ever was?

Now they're just like, "Well... sure, yeah"

That's a low bar, though. Chris Chandler and Bobby Hebert were also better quarterbacks than John Elway.

Patrick Mahomes II is a better quarterback than Dan Marino and Joe Montana. That's where any discussion should stop.

Setting aside my broncos hate for a moment, I was looking at the Abner Haynes trade to try to figure out why he wasn't a more active Chiefs alumni, and I came across this 1965 article about the broncos and the effort to keep them from moving in their early years. It's kind of interesting, and it's funny to read about things like season ticket prices back then. It's not a hate piece on the broncos despite the title. It's just interesting early AFL history and business dealings.

It was awesome until you realized that the win...and the one against the Bills (where they had 12 men and Donks got to re-kick) cost your team a realistic chance to pick the QB they actually wanted...

Could have picked as high as 6th. (cant remember what order the 2 other 6-11 teams went)

Instead you were forced to take a 2nd round QB talent at 13...and the 6th QB selected. Yikes.

Chiefs won the SB anyways... I dont mind if the streak ended if it prevented the Donks from getting a shot at a decent QB.
