Alternate Reality Game 1: Chiefs
The original post is below in blue, but let's summarize it here based on the past few years.
1. If you're a new player, start with the current Chiefs roster. If you've been playing for a while you'll have your own evolved roster. 2. You can add any free agent that the Chiefs add. 3. You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing. 4. You can accept or reject any trade the Chiefs make as long as any Chiefs player involved is currently on your roster. 5. You do not get players that the Chiefs draft. You draft your own players, using the same draft picks that the Chiefs have. 6. You can trade down ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade down before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.) If you trade down after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 25 percent. Any trade down must involve only the picks of one NFL team, and you cannot receive more than two picks more than you give up. (In other words, if you trade away one draft pick you cannot pick up more than three in return.) The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. See the examples at the bottom of the post. 6. You can trade up ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade up before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.). If you trade up after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 15 percent. Any trade up must involve only the picks of one NFL team. The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. 7. By the beginning of the season, you must reduce your total roster to include only 53 players. Original post: You can ignore this now.
Spoiler!
Added Rules and Reminders: 1. Remember that you can draft undrafted rookies, so you don't have to select only guys who were drafted. 2. Anyone can change their rookie draft selections at any time, UNTIL we reach ten days before training camp. At that point, all picks will be locked in. 3. Each team can do ONE trade of draft picks if they like, using this chart:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-trade-chart/. However, if you're trading up, you have to pay 15 percent more than the stated value of the picks you're obtaining. If you're trading down, your pick's value will be discounted by 25 percent. For example, if you want to trade up from the 20th pick in the 1st to the 10th pick, you can see from the chart that the 20th pick is worth 259 points. The 10th pick is normally 369 points, but by paying 15 percent more, it will cost you 1.15*369, or 424 points. So you would need to come up with another 165 points to make the deal (424-259) For example, if you want to trade down from the 20th pick in the 1st and pick up the 10th pick in the 2nd, your 20th pick would normally be worth 259 points, but in this game it will be worth 25 percent less, or 194 points. The 10th pick in the 2nd is worth 142 points, so you can get 52 points back from the other team. (Remember that you cannot pick up more than two extra picks in the trade, so consider your math carefully.) You can do only ONE draft-pick trade up and ONE draft-pick trade down, and in each case you can only trade with one other team for their own picks. (In other words, you couldn't take the 52 points in the above example from a third team.) Last edited by Rain Man; 04-25-2024 at 11:30 AM.. |

If you like someone alot at 54, you could trade 78 and both 4th's and get to 68 for Reid. That's what I'd do had it not been for me pulling the trade pre-draft. I'm really ****ing kicking myself for that.

I think I'm going to put a bit less thought into it this year and take my kneejerk reaction picks, because had I done that last year I'd be better for it... So here we go...
2(43) Jessie Bates, FS, Wake Forest Selected at 2(52) by Cincinnati The Chiefs have obvious needs in the secondary and my opinion defers from Veach's greatly with regard to how early I think the Chiefs should have addressed it. I'm going with a playmaking free safety here to boost the secondary and fill the void left by Ron Parker's cut. 3(86) Tarvarius Moore, CB/FS, Southern Mississippi Selected at 3(95) by San Francisco Moore was a playmaker for Southern Miss and has all-over-the-field athleticism to make plays in the NFL and keep pace with anyone. This kid could push Jimmie Ward to slot only duties very early and be the starter. I love his range and it look like SF does too given they want to move him to CB. 3(95) Harrison Phillips, DT, Stanford Selected at 3(96) by Buffalo My team is a bit weak in the trenches, only adding Carlos Watkins in the 4th last season. I'm going to go after a Kyle Williams clone in Phillips and solidify the position for years as Buffalo will do with him replacing Williams in their lineup. 4(122) Cole Madison, OT/G, Washington State Selected at 5(138) by Green Bay I've been really high on Cole Madison throughout this entire process and I'm sticking to my guns with him. I really need to work on upgrading my offensive line after more than a couple misses in recent drafts. Green Bay has a long-time habit of selecting college tackles and converting them to top-shelf guards and they'll do the same with Madison. 5(159) Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, EDGE, Oklahoma Selected at 5(160) by Los Angeles My team is definitely lacking depth at OLB and I see Okoronkwo as a guy that could develop there. He's got more than a passing shot to make the Rams roster and fight for playing time given the makeup of their linebacking corps. 6(196) Tremon Smith, CB, Central Arkansas Selected at 6(198) by Kansas City Because of the lack of depth at CB on my roster that compares with the actual Chiefs roster, I'm going to actually take one of their picks in Smith. He looks like a good slot corner type and could be the eventual replacement to Nelson there. 6(198) Bradley Bozeman, OC, Alabama Selected at 6(215) by Baltimore My team lacks depth on the offensive line and that's what Bozeman will likely be early on in Baltimore, but he has a legitmate chance to earn a starting gig there very early. Morse is injured alot so I need to at least take a chance at the position. 7(219) Zach Sieler, DE, Ferris State Selected at 7(238) by Baltimore I've been on Seiler for a while and love this kid's potential. He went to a team that has no issue taking Division II GLIAC players and I already have one of them on my roster. Let's hope they turn this physical freak into a freak on the field and give my defensive line a huge boost for cheap. 7(243) Holton Hill, CB, Texas UDFA by Minnesota Not much left in terms of value here so I'm going to take a shot on a backup QB that I know will be nothing but a backup in Cincinnati. I'll put my preliminary roster together shortly... Last edited by kccrow; 06-05-2018 at 11:33 AM.. Any idea why Okoronkwo dropped so far? He was a guy I was strongly considering in the 2nd or 3rd based on what I saw in the mock drafts. He seems like a bargain now unless I missed some news about him killing a girl scout or something.

My opinion is 1) he has the athleticism of a guy 25 pounds heavier, 2) he doesn't bend and flatten that well for his size, and 3) his size and perceived ability to hold up against the run.
The thing for me is, he was productive and he's strong in both halves. He has great explosion in his lower body. I think he'll be okay, especially as a situational pass rusher. If all he becomes is a 4-5 sack guy as a 3rd down rusher and a quality special teams player, then that's a good 5th round pick. |

As a rules note, you can accept or reject any Chiefs trade as long as you hold the trade capital that the Chiefs gave up. If we're talking about draft day trades of picks, you don't have to take any discounts if you accept a Chiefs trade of picks (trade ups in this case). You just have to be holding the picks that they gave up - no exceptions.

Okay, first I have to be sure of my picks and finalize any trades. I think I did this right, but correct me if I'm wrong.
My picks are: Yes - Round 1, Pick 22 because I didn't trade for Patrick Mahomes II. No - Round 2, pick 46. I will decline the tradeup to 2-46 that gave up 2-54 and 3-78 for this pick and 3-100. I didn't have pick 3-78. Yes - Round 2, pick 54. No - Round 3, pick 75. I will decline the tradeup for this pick by yielding picks 3-86 and 4-122, and will keep the original picks. No - Round 3, pick 78. I don't have this pick because Alex Smith was not on my roster. Yes - Round 3, pick 86 No - Round 3, pick 100. As noted above, I didn't make the trade to get this pick. Yes - Round 4, pick 122 No - Round 4, pick 124. There's no freaking way that I'm trading away Marcus Peters, so the Rams can keep this pick. Yes - Round 5, Pick 159 because I didn't trade for Cam Erving. Yes - Round 6, pick 196. No - Round 6, pick 198 because I'll decline trading 7-233 and 7-243 for this pick. Yes - Round 6, pick 209 because there's no way I'm trading away Marcus Peters No - Round 7, Pick 233 because Marcus Cooper wasn't on my roster to trade. Yes - Round 7, pick 240 because I won't trade it for Kenneth Acker. No - Round 7, Pick 243 because David King wasn't on my roster to trade. So I think I have... Yes - Round 1, Pick 22 because I didn't trade for Patrick Mahomes II. Yes - Round 2, pick 54. Yes - Round 3, pick 86 Yes - Round 4, pick 122 Yes - Round 5, Pick 159 because I didn't trade for Cam Erving. Yes - Round 6, pick 196. Yes - Round 6, pick 209 because there's no way I'm trading away Marcus Peters Yes - Round 7, pick 240 because I won't trade it for Kenneth Acker. That was a lot of brain damage to end up with more or less a pick in each round.

So I ran through a draft without trading and then one with trading 78 and both of my 4th round picks to 68 so that I could take Justin Reid. I just can't pass up on the talent that I would get without trading. Here's my current draft.
Round 2, pick 54 - Derrius Guice, RB, LSU Round 3, pick 78 - Tarvarius Moore, S, Southern Miss Round 3, pick 86 - Isaac Yiadom, CB, Boston College Round 4, pick 122 - Josh Sweat, DE/OLB, Florida State Round 4, pick 124 - Cole Madison, T/G, Washington State Round 6, pick 196 - Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame Round 7, pick 240 - Trenton Thompson, DT/DE, Georgia Last edited by The Franchise; 05-04-2018 at 09:56 AM.. |

Okay, with great fanfare, I present my 2018 draft.
My #1 priority was to build a pass rush this year. I’ve had an anemic pass rush for several years now and can’t seem to solve the problem. So I started with that mindset. Overall, my top five needs are: 1. Pass rushing linebackers. I need at least two, and at least one as a starter. 2. Running back committee member of high quality. 3. At least one defensive ends for a transition to a 4-3 at some point. Pass rushers. 4. Starting guard(s). At least one. 5. A high quality wide receiver. Pick 1-22 – Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State (Seahawks) I drafted Alvin Kamara last year, along with Samaje Perine, to rebuild a non-existent rushing attack, but I need an effective workhorse back who can make plays, and I think Penny is that guy. I considered Calvin Ridley very strongly, and he might be the safer bet, but in the end I like Penny a lot. I also considered Harold Landry, Will Hernandez, and even Christian Kirk or Connor Williams with a trade down, but the math on a trade down didn’t work and I feel that Penny can add more overall, complementing Kamara. Pick 2-54 – James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State (Steelers) I really need a pass rusher and fully intended to draft one or two in the first couple of rounds, but I wasn’t liking how the picks were shaking out. I really like what I’m reading about Washington, and I need a #1 receiver if Jeremy Maclin doesn’t latch onto a team. My big question on the 1st and 2nd round was whether to take Penny and Washington, or instead take Calvin Ridley and Derrius Guice at the same positions. Ridley and Guice seem to be lower risk, but I like the upside of Penny and Washington. It’s a risky move on my part, but I’m all about risk/reward bets. I also considered Isaiah Oliver and Sam Hubbard with this pick, but not seriously. Washington was the guy I wanted. He kind of drove my strategy in the first two rounds. Pick 3-86 – Trade down with the Dallas Cowboys. The 3-86 pick is worth 160 points, or 104 points after the discount. With that 104 points I pick up the 4-116 pick (62 points), 4-137 pick (37 points), and 7-236 pick (1 point). My initial plan was to use this pick on Arden Key as a pass rusher, but he’s not the type of player I like drafting. He seems unmotivated and I suspect he’ll have a short career. So I considered G/T Alex Cappa and RB Mark Walton, but I really needed a pass rusher, so I did the trade down. See those picks for my strategy. Pick 4-116 – Dorrance Armstrong, DE, Kansas (Cowboys) Armstrong jumped out when I was looking for alternatives to Arden Key. It seems like he’s got less risk, a reasonable upside, and he was drafted a lot lower. By taking Armstrong, I could trade down and get a couple more picks. He can come in as a DE/edge rusher for me, and while he’s primarily a DE it appears that he can potentially play OLB. Regardless, he’s a pass rusher. Pick 4-122 – Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan (Raiders). Okay, I don’t need a DT at all. Not at all. But I can’t pass him up, and if I stay in a 3-4 defense this year, which is likely, he can add some pass rush at the DE spot. There’s a reason why he slipped this far, so the heart problem may be a major deal, but it’s worth the risk. My other option was Marquis Haynes, who frankly fit a lot better with my needs. I also considered Shaqueem Griffin. I need linebackers. But I couldn’t pass up Hurst. Pick 4-137 – Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon (Lions) I’ve got two good tackles on the roster with Mitchell Schwartz and Morgan Moses, but they’re both natural right tackles. I think Crosby is a good value pick who could potentially become a left tackle, or he could also slide in at guard where I have needs. He’s a bit of a luxury pick here. If I had picked Marquis Haynes with the earlier pick, I could’ve gotten Hurst or Crosby here. I could have also gone with Shaqueem Griffin, but I could resist Crosby for depth and a long term play. Pick 5-159 – Wyatt Teller, G, Virginia Tech (Bills) The whole time I was planning, I figured that I’d take Ogbonnia Okoronkwo in this spot, but as the draft shook out and I realized that I needed a guard, I looked and saw Wyatt Teller in this spot. I like him as a guard prospect, so I once again passed up a linebacker that I needed. I also had Darius Phillips and Duke Ejiofor on my radar for this spot. Pick 6-196 – Jack Cichy, OLB, Wisconsin (Buccaneers) I really liked Tremon Smith of the Chiefs and almost made him my pick, but that would require cutting another developmental cornerback, whereas I have an open roster spot for a linebacker. So Cichy gets the call on the bet that he can develop into a starting OLB. Other players considered included Tremon Smith and Shaun Dion Hamilton. Pick 6-209 – Ade Aruna, DE, Tulane (Vikings) Purely a developmental pick, and I’ve got lots of roster room for developmental defensive ends. He seems like a potential pass rusher, so I’ll continued stocking up in the hopes that one will emerge. I also strongly considered WR Marcell Ateman and G Colby Gossett. Pick 7-236 – Justin Jackson, RB, Northwestern (Chargers) I could use some depth at running back, and he seemed to be the best remaining talent overall. I also strongly considered several other players, including OLB Kendall Donnerson, DE Justin Lawler, DE Zach Sieler, and G Rod Taylor. Pick 7-240 – Hercules Mata’afa, DE, Washington State (Undrafted, signed by Vikings as free agent) I don’t know the deal with this guy. He was described as a tweener DT/DE with a really good first step. You can’t teach a fast first step so I had this guy targeted for a long time as I prepared. And then he went undrafted. Weird. I’ll take the chance that he’ll stick. I also considered WR Trey Quinn with this pick.
