Then we have to consider the picks they gave up to get Payton as their coach. The jury is still out on that one, but they have a long way to go to make that trade pay off.
It’s shameful that Paton still has a job.

Drew Brees carried a SHIT New Orleans roster for YEARS. Payton knows dick about assembling talent and Paton is even WORSE

All you have to do is look at the drafting of both GM’s to see who is better.
Veach's first pick in every draft:

Breeland Speaks - Legitimately awful
Mecole Hardman - Under-performed, product of the system, did nothing in NY
CEH- Bust. Six Pro Bowlers were selected in the following 21 picks.
Nick Bolton - Hit
McDuffie - Hit
Felix Anudike-Uzomah - I hate to label anyone a bust after their rookie season, but the Chiefs had him inactive for the playoffs and gave him 10 or fewer snaps in every game after week 5, except for week 18 where they rested their starters.

A 2/6 hit rate on the highest picks in each draft doesn't seem very impressive.

Meanwhile, despite missing three first round picks and three second round picks, the General's troops still managed to execute a perfect pincer movement to bring down Mahitler at the Battle of Mile High.

I firmly believe Lock is capable of a Geno Smith type of turn around. He's got the talent he's just a little too Wentz-style hero ball at the wrong times.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Get out of here with the arbitrary "first pick" bullshit.

Most of those guys are 2nd round picks. Veach is 2 for 3 in the 1st round, because FAU and Worthy are still to be determined.

He's been good in the 2nd round too. Bolton, Humphrey, Rice, Thornhill, Cook. Hardman was hardly a miss, even if it wasn't a huge hit. Skyy and Speaks are the only huge misses.

Having the best playoff DC in modern history doesn't hurt, either.

Veach has had it pretty easy. Has a GM ever been dropped into a cushier job than Veach?
Yes, having the best coach in history, the best QB in history, and the best TE in the history of the league does tend to raise all tides.

Broncos fans probably wouldn't know much about that.

Denver has accrued 31 losses under Gomer Paton, tied for 5th worst in the league during that stretch. The only pincering he's done is to the short and long term prospects of the Broncos.

Veach definitely struggled early as a GM but getting Sneed, Bolton, Creed, Trey, McDuffie, Karlaftis, Pacheco and Rice the last few years has been outstanding.

His 2021 draft was really good and the 2022 class is arguably the NFL’s best draft class in the last 10 years.

It’s better than that 2017 Saints draft Knowmo goes on about

Not trading up for Mahomes makes that Saints draft an F. Payton is a failure

Veach wasn't the GM, but if the stories are true, he was the driving force behind drafting Mahomes. That will buy him one hell of a lot of leeway on busted picks.

Knowmo is actually defending the virus that makes his team suck simply because he works at One Horse Testicle Drive
