The Pioli Watch Thread

I'm hijacking the thread starter to use for an "updates" area. Sorry cardken. Here are a few recent updates:

Pioli would find a warm welcome in Kansas City. At the last Chiefs' home game, shortly after the embattled Carl Peterson resigned after 20 years as president, general manager and CEO, several signs were spotted in the crowd proclaiming, "We want Pioli." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

How many fugging jobs has Parcells had in the last 8 years? The guy is all over the map. I want someone committed to the Kansas City Chiefs. Parcells is not it.

He's a proven backup, the same way Brady was to Bledsoe; you don't let that go unless you have to.
You don't spend 14 mil on a backup, proven or not. The Pats have to trade him.

Since Cleveland is basically going with the Kokinis/Mangini combo, it's either say in NE or come to KC for Pioli.

I'm just shocked if he takes the job. It's like something fainlly has gone right for this organization.

They will if they are at all unsure about Brady's status. It doesn't sound like his surgery recovery is going that well.

They will pay him that much for one year because they can't afford to let him go and then have Brady not be healthy for Week 1 of 2009

I have no doubts that if Stafford is the highest rated player on his board, he'll take him at #2, then sit him for a year (or two) until Bulger's cap hit becomes a bit more manageable to absorb. And with Stafford only being 20 years old, it's not a bad play at all.

Right now, FWIW, the fans seem split between a QB and a LT.
I wouldn't at all be surprised to see that happen. In fact being a Chiefs fan I expect it to happen.

I hate to get excited early, but I am so jacked up that this might actually happen. Pioli is from my hometown and having him become the Chiefs GM would be a dream come true.

There's some strange-brew happening around here for sure. One of our hopeful HC's is a graduate and football player from a college in the town I grew up in.

That is correct... you can't have close to $30 million tied up into two QBs.

DOMINIK REMAINS ON CHIEFS’ RADAR?

Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2009, 7:11 a.m.

In contrast to the coach/G.M. search in Cleveland, which is featuring more leaks than a boat made of graham crackers and old glue, the situation in Kansas City largely has been cloaked in secrecy.

As a result, there are conflicting reports about who really is and isn’t a candidate for the G.M. job there.

Last week, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the list of potential successors to Carl Peterson included Pats V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli, Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis, Ravens director of college scouting Eric DeCosta, Colts assistant G.M. Chris Polian, and possibly former Browns G.M. Phil Savage. (Savage’s inclusion prompted us to conclude that Mort must owe Savage a lot of money. Or favors. Or both.)

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter has a somewhat different list: Pioli, Polian, Chargers director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, and Bucs director of pro personnel Mark Dominik.

Our friends at Pewter Report have confirmed Dominik’s candidacy.

That said, the situation remains vague, in large part because no one in the organization is yapping about it. As a result, it’s not clear who’ll be interviewed, or when the interviews will happen.

And, frankly, the Browns could learn a valuable lesson from the example the Chiefs are setting.
