I love this thread so much. Bruce Lee fought local street gangs, everyone! The most dominant boxer in a generation wouldn't be able to land a punch against him...even though MMA competitions have proven that nearly every fight is dominated by boxing and submissions with only a tiny bit of leg strikes here and there. Also, weight classes had to be created because the bigger guys destroyed the little guys, and Lee was 100 pounds lighter than Tyson.
I guess Sylvester Stallone would take out a team of special forces because he was in Rambo. |

Everyone he ever came up against, in the street or in tournaments.
He was undefeated in US Competition through the 60s - it's how he made his name and got the role as Kato on Green Hornet. he also had many street fights and 'comparisons' (inter-club fights between rival kung fu clubs - supposed to be more stylistic but usually, with the Wing Chun clubs, it became full on). When he moved to the US (which he had to because his fighting was getting him into trouble) he had a few fights with karate and kung fu stylists which he won. While many criticise him as not being as good as his publicity, it needs to be remembered that World Champions like Mike Stone, Joe Lewis and Chuck Norris trained under him whilst top level masters like Ed Parker, George DIllman, Wally Jay, Hayward Nishioka, Jhoon Rhee, Daniel Pai and many more, rated him incredibly highly. Also, a lot of his students were black belts under top instructors. He did attend many tournaments and gave demonstrations which were raved about by the competitors of the day.*Bruce Lee also fought in REAL fights against opponents with intent to do him great bodily harm. Run Run Shaw (Chinese movie mogul and purported mobster) had a standing contract out on Master Lee for anyone who could defeat him because Bruce refused to work with him making movies when Bruce returned to China. The contract payoff was $5000 and a 10 year film making agreement. It is said that many tried to collect that payout, none did. Bruce Lee never refused a challenge from anyone, and no one has EVER come forward to say they beat him in a fight. At the time of Bruce's introduction to the U.S., martial arts competitions consisted of NO CONTACT -tournaments where neither competitor was allowed to make contact with any techniques. Winners were decided by judges who based their decisions on who they thought would have done the most damage...if contact had been allowed. Before you start to question things you know absolutely NOTHING about, view the two following documentaries: The Greatest Martial Artist: Bruce Lee;* Bruce Lee: A Warriors Journey* No one who knew Bruce Lee personally, trained with him, or challenged him, questioned if he was the best. If the people who knew him best had no doubt in his ability who are you to question it. Duh.

There is an awful lot of mythology built up around Bruce Lee. He's the samurai sword of the martial arts world.
