Let's Talk About the Eagles (Super Bowl 59 Discussion)

We're headed back to the Ship and will try to be the first team to 3-peat in Super Bowl history!!! Chiefs open up as 1.5 favorites over the Eagles.

Discuss.

It is and it isn't.

The whole argument about DJ and Thuney boiled down to the idea that DJ whiffing even once could get Pat hurt.

Well, Caliendo had two plays exactly like that last week. In one case, Oliver blew right past him and plastered Mahomes. That can't happen.

You shouldn’t throw huge contracts at it, but it also can’t be an abomination

DJ isn't playing because the Chiefs don't believe he's capable. Full stop. Now, if it's because of conditioning or injury or ability only they know the answer, but Reid has clearly been trying to work him into the starting offense splitting reps with Thuney (who REALLY needs them given he's a LG playing LT) and it just hasn't happened.

Everyone is saying the Eagles defense is way better than what we faced 2 years ago? Is that really true? It seems to me that Jalen is not what he once was. I’m really hoping we can exploit that somehow but gotta worry about that tight end and Barkley
The Chiefs are like 8-0 against Vic Fangio's defenses although the caveat there is a bunch of them were the Broncos

I know there were a couple of obvious downs that Caliendo failed, but are we sure it was that terrible overall? I really don't remember the offensive line having too much trouble against the Bills.

Also, for all of the praise on Thuney (and mostly deserved), there was that one down near the goal line that everyone blames Caliendo while ignoring that Thuney also got pushed back into Mahomes.

Our running game sure seemed like it was getting blown up repeatedly by his guy. Maybe the All 22 tells a different story.

Not sure I see it happening so often again. Feels like it happened nearly every single time in the last game

I watched that SB replay on NFL Network last night. I still don't think that was a catch on the sideline by Goedert.

But yeah, his receivers played about as well as they possibly could. And Hurts played probably the best game of his career up to and since that game. Hopefully, we don't see quite as much of that this time around.

Our secondary could have played a bit better, and I think think will this time. Heck, even Sneed messed up a few times in coverage.

That Eagles defense set a record for sacks in a season (70?) so I have a hard time believing this year is better. They apparently force a lot of turnovers. But hey, so did Buffalo. How did that work out for the Bills?

Yeah, I'm thinking that game was a once-in-a-lifetime performance by Hurts. I suppose he could do it again, but the odds are against it, IMO.

I would love to know what the All 22 shows about that performance.

Anyone who has access to the All 22 and who wants to review that game, please post your thought here. Thanks.

The issue with the running game is more indian (RB) than it is arrow (OL).

The wrench Kansas City throws into the equation is on offense, where their season long stats are largely throwaways. We know things completely changed once they got Brown back along with patching LT.

To me, we are seeing a few of the brightest and most honest analysts come around to the reality of the chiefs stashing a few plays for key spots in the playoffs, self-scouting relentlessly and improving during the year, executing better and being more focused.

I really like Mina Kimes, so I’m glad to see her as part of that crowd.

Reid and Spagnuolo have the discipline to save key new looks for huge spots. And it makes a huge difference.

Each of their past two playoff wins against the Bills involve them showing a blitz they NEVER ran before in key spots. And breaking out plays on offense in key spots that were brand new.

It will happen again in the Super Bowl. And many will act surprised.

Yeah Bills forced 0 turnovers. That biffed rpo exchange was bizarre.

I like pop, but man. For this game, Hunt needs to start, and needs the lions share of the work at rb.

It's his redemption arc after all.

The Rams couldn't protect the ball. The Eagles have been good/lucky at forcing turnovers in their wins. The Packers/Rams/Commanders all fell apart by gifting the Eagles the ball multiple times.

If we protect the ball, it will make it that much harder for the Eagles. We beat Buffalo but our one turnover swung the momentum of the game.
