Who? What free agent WR specifically?

And no thanks to paying Andrew Wylie. He was adequate when he was cheap, but paying him would've been a terrible decision.

ya that might have been too much, what Washington gave him. And I don't know, I kind of wanted Theilen, but not at what Carolina gave him. It doesn't really matter anyways, what's done is done. I would be surprised if they don't prioritize the WR position next offseason after what we are seeing now. But then again, we have some good players that will be up for contract as well.

Though with what we are seeing with rice we might be able to temper what we need. We still need another piece but staying aggressive in the draft is a good option too or you think more secondary market vs primary. I still think the wr market is set to drop massively in the coming years now that the qb market is finally priced in
Maybe, but it also could just shift to these other teams with cheap rookie QB's looking to spend.

People may not like it, hell I don't think I do i'd like to go spend on a big name guy or trade for one, but they probably should just keep the course and keep putting draft picks in teh WR room.

Just keep swinging at it.

Id love to go get a big name WR this off-season or work out a trade to move up for one in the draft.

Jakobi Meyers would've been interesting.

But you're absolutely right - people would've been blasting Veach for not upgrading on Wylie had we gone that route.

Bottom line is that superteams just rarely happen. I'd say top to bottom the Eagles are as close as we've seen in a long-while in that regard and even that took a fair amount of good fortune. Getting a 1st for a washed up Wentz and replacing him with Hurts just isn't something you see everyday. They got an elite LT on the 3rd day through the international player program and on top of that the rest of their OL just seems ageless.

It's just not a sport designed to create teams without holes.

So they prioritized cap on the OL rather than WR.

Nothing earth-shattering here.

We all seem to be in agreement here. Mahomes is the moneymaker. The reason we won SB's. That's the fantastic part.

The Chiefs need to protect the moneymaker or they are screwed. The moneymaker is now the highest paid player and going to remain that way for the foreseeable future. Do you spend money to protect the reason you can win a SB or risk his health and your season to spend more money on a WR instead of the OL?

Here's the other thing - I'm old enough to remember the LAST 'Eagles Dynasty' that never was.

The 2017 Eagles were touted as the best young roster in football with an ascending young MVP caliber QB, substantial draft capital and a 10 year window of dominance...

The went 31-33-1 over the next 4 seasons and blew the damn thing up.

Meanwhile the WORST 4-year stretch that we've had since Reid got here over a decade ago is 42-22.

This level of sustained success just doesn't happen. And because it doesn't, teams are constantly building on foundations of sand; they're constantly patching holes as they surface and as those are addressed, new ones appear.

It's why you don't see 5-10 year runs like we've had with any regularity. You don't see many teams that average over 5 years what we've averaged over 10. You don't see many teams accomplish over 10 years what we've accomplished in 5.

This league is just ungodly difficult. There is no panacea. There is no silver bullet. I've said this before but anytime someone says "Why don't they just..." I immediately tune them about because it suggests some level of ambivalence or outright laziness from the Chiefs. It suggests an easy button and as such can be summarily ignored.

Everything is a balancing act. The Chiefs lost a SB when their protection cratered. They won a SB with mediocre weapons. It made ALL the sense in the world to learn from those two lessons and do exactly what Veach did this offseason.

It could but we also were in an age of unprecedented first contract QB talent. Now we have half of teams with a high dollar QB. Even if that takes a few teams out of the mix for a WR that's substantial. Even more teams get taken out since we also had and still have substantial first contract studs at WR. Guys like tee Higgins and chase and Jefferson haven't even been paid yet. It'll drive the market up for the best of the besf but leave way less dollars for everyone else.

I also think we're seeing way more cautionary tales of WRs miserable with their qb situation.

Youd have to think the WR market becomes way more reasonable soon.

It corrected last off-season, but part of that was a dearth of available options.

I don't think the top end is going to correct itself, though. More money is being pumped into the system; Jefferson and Chase can ask for (and will receive) more than Hill got. That top of the market is going to keep getting higher and higher.

What you might see is what we saw with QBs about 6-8 years ago; the QB middle class formed instead of every swinging dick free agent passer becoming the new highest paid QB in NFL history...

That's really where you may see some shifts in the FA landscape, IMO.

But the "half the league with QB's on contracts' is the same as it's always been. The other half will always have cheap QB's.

It just doesn't ever happen where once a market is set, it goes backwards. I'd say the 25-30 million dollar mark for high end WR's is where it's gonna be.

Then you get some middle tier guys slot in below that, but they're gonna do cheaper shorter deals and try to continue to cash in.

If you want a borderline #1 guy, you either draft him and have him cheap then pay, or you overpay the FA one that hits the market. And usually, there's a reason said guy is hitting the market.

But when even those guys are getting 20 plus million a year...is the value really there?

It looks like to get one of these high end guys, you're probably gonna have to trade for and pay him like the Eagles/Dolphins/Raiders did and I'm not sure that's really palatable.
