They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

And got excoriated in the game-thread for trying to point out what I was seeing from the stands. Then the All-22 came out and supported that, but it got lost in the 4th quarter shitshow.

Been watching the games. Been genuinely surprised by what I've seen. It's not as though i came into the season thinking "Man, Mahomes is going to backslide" or "This receivers are ****ing outstanding!"

Nope. But everything I've seen from the offense suggests that yes, the receivers could be better, but the greatest impact improved WR play would have would actually be to convince the QB to start throwing guys open again.

'Cause right now, he just ain't.

This guy has some pretty good stuff especially for defense. Yeah our WR's aren't the greatest but here is a good example of maybe coaching\play design is also part of it. There is literally 7 guys around 3 receivers with I think Gray leaking out but that is way to late.

We also have to every once in a while give the defense credit...

Some of the lowlights:

KC WRs lead the league in drops. Two of the Chiefs WRs have drop rates in the top-11 (worst) of all WRs through Week 9. No other team has more than one WR in that list, and only two teams have multiple WRs in the 'top' 15, DAL and CAR. And those four WRs all have better drop rates than KC's two WRs.

According to PFN, Rice currently 'leads' the league in drop rate, with 16.7%, with toney in '2nd place' at 15.8%.

Rice, MVS, Justin Watson, KT, and Skyy account for 5 of Mahomes' 8 INTs in 2023 when targeted through Week 9, or 62.5% of Pat's total INTs on the season.

Rice is the only KC WR with a Passer Rating over 100 when targeted.

Three of the top 5 KC WRs possess PRs below 78 (Justin Watson/KT@78.1/77.5 respectively, and then Skyy at 57).

For reference, Demarcus Robinson never had a season in KC with a Passer Rating of less than 93.7, and during his four years in KC his PR average was 106.8.
2 weeks ago I saw a stat on the Ringer that was pretty crazy.

When Mahomes is throwing to his WR's his EPA was 26th in the NFL.

The Broncos game was one where I thought the play design was just way too vanilla.

The Broncos were just playing really basic zone coverage and our route combos were simply crossing over each other too often. We made it SUPER easy for them.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that we have drives throughout games with a similar theme.

RB whiffed it, otherwise the S driving on Kelce leaves a monster hole there for MVS.

No it doesn't. We just have to make smarter decisions. Rice is a good step. You can have good WRs without breaking the bank. It's just that 3 of the WRs we've used 2nd and 3rd round picks on have sucked so far overall. Make better decisions with those picks and we're not having this conversation.

The Toney and MOore ones are the ones that are killer.

Moore is unplayable.

But again, with taht cap hit, you're gonna have to rely on drafted young guys like this. Well, that's about the way this is gonna go most of the time.

I think Mahomes is getting really tired of guys like Skyy and MVS letting him down. Skyy blew aTD in Denver that hit his arm and MVS isn't fighting for the damn ball. Mahomes threw one deep ball to MVS on the same type of play design that got Skyy that look and he just flubbed it.

He's taking some shots. The WR's are just not doing their part. I think that's why Mahomes trusts Watson so much.

Well....Watson just dropped a TD pass last week.

I definitely agree though, they need to get the deep passing game going. Mecole, Watson, Toney whoever.

Get the ball down the field more.

No, you don't. You hope you hit and get cheap good players but if you don't you need to spend.

So on defense we had a lot more hits so we can roster a bunch of guys that are cheap and young because they are good.

On offense they could just take the $$$ they are paying MVS and give it to a FA like Mooney next year.

They also need to take more shots. This draft and last year there were guys after the 2nd that can play like Downs, Nakua, Shakir, Scott etc but they didn't try that.

I was looking at our WRs' EPAs last week (maybe two weeks ago), but now I can't find the site that I was looking at, lol. Anyway, Rice looks good at 1.9/game, but then it's MVS at 0.5/game. I don't remember any other KC WR EPAs, but it definitely got worse from there.

They just took shots with Moore in the 2nd, and a 3rd for Toney. They were gonna play those guys, right or wrong.

You keep saying "spend" when they aren't gonna cap themselves in future years with alot of those home grown draft picks coming up that are gonna need paid.

They'll spend, probably cut MVS etc.

But they aren't gonna go blow out the WR market with money. If they do, honestly, they're dumb for not just doing it with Tyreek.

Not really. I don't think a 2nd and 3rd rounder having 328 yards combined in 9 games is how it's gonna go most of the time. The worst WR drafted in the 2023 2nd round is Mingo so far and he has 200 yards by himself on a shit offense. So I can't buy 328 yards from a 2nd year player and a 3rd year player combined on a team quarterbacked by Patrick Mahomes as how it's going to go most of the time.

The trade for Toney is looking like a pretty big waste at this point as well as the Moore pick.

The Moore pick...whatever. Shit happens, you miss in the draft.

The Toney thing....they talked him up all offseason, then just nothing.
