NfL owners meeting this week. 18 game schedule

NFL owners meeting this week to discuss potential for 18-game regular season

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's campaign to add an 18th game to the regular-season schedule is reportedly set to gain momentum during next week's annual owners meetings.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, two NFL executives believe schedule expansion talks "will intensify" when the annual meeting talks place in Palm Beach, Florida from March 30 to April 2.

Those talks will be part of what is expected to be "more assertive efforts" from Goodell and team owners to talk schedule expansion this summer, according to Robinson.

The NFL has an option to opt out of many of its current broadcast deals after the 2029 season. The league could theoretically hope to get more money on a new deal if it can promise networks 18-game seasons after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in March 2031.

Good point! I hadn't thought of that but probably a pretty high percentage of the players do.

That’s more realistic to do with a 10 minute OT, than the 15 minute postseason OT.

Go on a 9-10 minute drive and eliminate the opportunity for the other team to get a possession.
It's not 15 minutes in OT. If it's still tied after 15 minutes, the game plays on. I also believe that if one team is behind, but their 1st possession has not ended and the 15 minutes runs out, the second team still has a chance to finish their drive in the "2nd" quarter. That scenario was coming close to playing out in the Super Bowl vs the 49ers. We scored with 0:03 to go in the 1st OT. But had we not scored by 0:00, the game would have continued on into the 2nd OT. If we would have wound up taking a FG, even early in the 2nd OT, the game would have then became sudden death.

The Chiefs have said multiple times if the 49ers had scored a TD, that we would have went for 2, and not gave them the ball for the sudden death portion of OT first since they chose to receive to start the 1st OT.

Northern games in winter or Florida games in August?

If I'm a player (as opposed to a fan) I would much rather play in winter.

Rain Man beat me to it but that’s just a natural progression.

OJ rushed for over 2,000 yards in a 14-game season. I believe Jim Brown played when a season was just 12 games.

"Greed" is such a loaded word. People usually use it to imply that it's wrong for other people to want more, but never think of it as wrong to want more themselves.

As a Floridian these days and have went to 4 Chief games in the first of September when it feels like 115 degrees. I was even in the pool area last time in Jacksonville. Didn't help.

I'm not going to another outside game in Florida in September.

Seems like it's being used in the right context here though.

When I start creating $20 billion in revenue per year and continously look for ways to squeeze more money out, product and fans be damned, then yeah you're welcome to judge me for that, too.

I'll let you have the last word there before this becomes a political argument, but I disagree.
