There's life outside of obsessing over the Chiefs

Something I noticed about myself and might be a decent reminder to someone who needs to hear it.

I noticed i was obsessing over the chance for a 3-peat so much it was affecting my overall well-being, and failing that quest definitely hurt. And with the rest of the NFL fans taking their victory lap over our demise, Kelce potentially retiring, and the offseason pundits surely expecting us to fail next year, it would be really easy to get too caught up in all the negativity and hate surrounding the Chiefs, caring too much about what everyone else thinks.

I think I'm gonna chill this offseason. Obviously I'll be checking if Kelce retires and watching the offseason moves, but otherwise I'll be more lax about it. People are gonna say some dumb shit about us this offseason for sure, and it's just not worth getting riled up over.

Exactly. It felt like it was so much more because it was. Well put

But man it truly is the lowest of lows when the tough L happens on the field or in life. I wish I never got involved into sports because i obviously become too emotionally invested in this stuff. 2025 has been an awful year for me. I’ve already lost a pet and my neighbor died unexpectedly last week. My Chiefs getting their ass kicked as they looked devastated on the sideline wasn’t something that was helping an already shitty new year

I’ve stayed off all social media and sports talk because I just can’t handle the negativity right now. And combine all that with maybe losing one of my favorite players ever?

Yeah it’s been a rough week to say the least. Make fun of me if you want but some of us can’t help how we feel. You’re not alone OP

Edit: also I’m kind of in a place right now where I don’t have a lot going on. It would be easier if there was something for me to dive headfirst into as a distraction
For me, it was just the Chiefs obsession masking all the issues I had going on in my life. I actually woke up pretty depressed on Super Bowl Sunday, which was a very odd feeling. Why would I be feeling this way? But that's the thing with obsessions sometimes, they become your entire world and you rely on them so much to keep you happy that when they're gone, or in this case the season ended, you sorta "wake up" to your situation and think "what the hell am I doing with my life, man?"

Side note, I have a pretty one-track mind, meaning it's easy for me to hyper fixate on one particular interest and that just becomes my entire world for a while. Obviously not very helpful when that thing is outright negatively affecting your life.

Since then, I've focused on the essentials and just living better in general, and I'm almost grateful the season is over. It's like a relief, I can breathe again. Like others have said, you can just relax and focus on other things you were neglecting.

Anyone talking shit hasn't been paying attention.

We've seen Mahomes get destroyed before and the naysayers chirped. Mahomes forgot how to play football in the second half of the following year afccg, and again, the naysayers chirped.

3 straight trips to the superbowl followed.

Andy shitting in his pants with the worst superbowl gameplan and refusal to adjust we've seen since Walsh fist****ed Shula isn't enough to derail Mahomes. Andy should be mercilessly kicked in the balls until he vomits, and then once more for good measure. His o line imploding again isn't enough to derail Mahomes.

All this did was put that taste of ash in Mahomes mouth. He no longer needs to look under every rock for motivation. No way he goes out without avenging this loss.

It's like all these big mouths talking shit hit the terminator with a trash truck, and they're all foolishly dancing around the wreckage and cheering, when anyone paying attention knows what is about to emerge from that wreckage and mercilessly slaughter everyone.

I don't like to say this but in some way it makes next season more interesting. Instead of coronation and endless three-peat victory laps we're looking to rise from the ashes after getting dismantled on the biggest stage in the history of the game. I think we may even have a tougher schedule and a potentially lesser team to boot in terms of depth.

Maybe there is life outside of obsessing over the Chiefs but I don't want to live it. The Chiefs are greatness. What else is there really? Go find a hot women? Have some kids? Spend time with the family you'd honestly rather not spend time with?

It's all yours. I'll stick with the Chiefs.

P.S. OP: You kind of sound like a Reba McEntire song with that headline. The post was pretty good though.

Let ll the opposing fans have their moment. They’ve been waiting almost3 years to point and laugh. But I have a feeling Chiefs and their fans will get the last laugh.

First, I’ve grown to realize we as humans will never get complete joy and fulfillment from anything we lack control over, let alone pro sports teams. They give us a lot emotionally, but it can’t be your foundation. For me, faith is what I’ve got. Never changes no matter what’s going on around us.

That being said, you still gotta enjoy life here and a wise man once said, “you don’t experience life, you experience the life you focus on”.

These days, there’s more distractions than ever. Social media will consume several hours of people’s time today scrolling, and half or more of what they see is going to try to piss them off or cause worry.

I gotta tell you, getting off the socials that have these algorithms designed to draw emotion out of you.. for many that would be a great decision. A lot of what’s posted is about gaining attention or even money in some instances. There’s plenty of good football discussion and coverage out there — here on CP, and a laundry list of good NFL-wide and Chiefs podcasts/shows. Real people who will be genuine and honest in how they talk about this overly entertaining sport. Cut out the bullshit trolls. Dare I say feel bad for those people if they have nothing better to do than try to tear others’ achievements down.

I’ve grown to appreciate the LVIII team a lot more this week which has been cool. Felt like when we won that one, everything instantly shifted to threepeat pursuit and that didn’t really allow us to properly process the achievement that is a repeat.

Honestly I love this time of year. The offseason allows me to be more productive as a person but also roster building is one of the best parts of fandom. We’ve gotta enjoy every last bit of this next decade or so because we are going to be one of the six to eight teams every year that has a real genuine shot to win it. And I think we are too good from the top down not to keep stacking. These are the good ol’ days.

At school the next day I decided that I hate it when people have tried to minimize Chiefs Super Bowl wins so I made sure to congratulate all of those kids and teachers who are Eagles fans and point out how special the feeling is. I took whatever trash they wanted to talk because that's the transaction, but they were all pretty cool once I congratulated them. To the few Chiefs fans I said, get over it. No one feels sorry for us. We've had it good and there is more to come. We've felt the feeling. To the shit head Steelers fans I kindly invited them to shut their mouths (It's hard for them to understand it isn't always about them).

What was most striking though was standing in the hallway next to my friend the Eagles fan. Every kid who walked by had smart ass comments to me about the score and shitty smirks on their faces. No one high fived my friend or congratulated him. I asked one class why they did that. They said it's more fun to tease. It's a sad world. But hey, I've still had that feeling.

I quit living and dying by each play many years ago. I am disappointed. But life moves on

I teach 8th. Kids are stupid. I never gloat. But oh boy. Just 5 minutes ago I kid said something, I said "You dont even know where Philadelphia is" He said in the middle of Pennsylvania......

The Chiefs hate this year has been off the charts. People repeating stupid narratives from the internet. ugh.

I moved on. I have a life to lead. I have a job to do, Even though I am in class now---they are doing a review for a test. This is a great class. Although I am a little short on MTDEW.

I have to go to Philly in a few weeks. I will take pics of the riots from the City of Brotherly Scum.

I wasn't worried about the game going in, I wasn't upset that they lost, and I'm still right here.

This is one of the best runs in NFL history. Nothing has changed.

I wish I wasn't on my phone so I could easily bold the part about algorithms. The AI generated fake stories are 100% designed to inflame emotions. Social media is nothing but negative energy because it drives engagement. I used to get my football fix here. I avoided socials for years. I should have just stuck with it. This is WAY better.

You always want more, no matter how much winning has taken place. 5 SB's in 6 years and bringing home 3 SB trophies doesn't make you happy? Wellll ..... that's on you.

I've felt great about this team since we lost the 2018 AFCCG. Seriously.

That loss didn't get me down. It was the opposite. I saw that Mahomes was The One. That we had an incredible future and I couldn't wait for it to begin. I told my adult sons after that game, "Mahomes is The One. He is exactly what I've seen other QBs do through the years that we never had. He is going to win MULTIPLE Super Bowls. Not one, but MULTIPLE Super Bowls." That was January 2019. And I was right.

And I still feel bullish on him and the Chiefs, even as they likely begin transitioning into the next era of his career.

Is there? Is there really?

Yeah, I get it. Sometimes I think of how I used to cheer the Chiefs. Back in the 70s and 80s, they were an afterthought. Seasons came and went, there was plenty to do other than football.

Since I have retired, it's really sinking in that the days ahead are much less than the days behind and I get to choose how I approach each day. Is it worth the energy? We all have to decide for ourselves.

oh I totally agree I'm just more thinking if like you're depressed about it or causing you to have like lingering emotions about it, then maybe you're too invested. it's okay to be disappointed but like take a step back if the amount of emotion you're feeling is not appropriate for the amount of control you have over the situation
