All this consternation and bullshit from blowhards everywhere about the 4th and inches play has me thinking about the future of this play. And man, if we're already getting Schefter and Florio talking about changing the rules to help teams beat the Chiefs, we may as well make it fair across the board, right?

The tush push hides the ballcarrier and makes it tough to view and make a decision on ball placement when it's close. I do believe the NFL wants to get the calls right, but when they make the decision in the game and rule it too close to call so they can't overturn it, people scream bloody murder. I think by creating a damn rugby pile when every inch really matters, you're just going to continue inviting this crap to fester in discussions of very important games. Shit, we're up against the emperors of this stupid play. What if one of them is close like this again? The Eagles REALLY hide Hurts on these plays, and he goes pretty low. They're going to convert the play a whole bunch, but a few of them might be close. What then will happen?

And in addition to it just being a stupid ****ing play with no chance of unpredictability, I just hate it. And for people who say, "Just learn to stop the play and offenses won't run it" you're allowing offensive players to push each other, but you're saying defenders can't meet force with force. Nobody can stop that shit if you're giving an unfair advantage to one side of the ball.

Depending on what the rule means by "attempt to obstruct an opponent", wouldn't this mean the tush push is a penalty of aiding the runner? The enforcement of aiding the runner would be:

Penalty: For assisting the runner, interlocking interference, or illegal use of hands, arms, or body by the offense: Loss of 10 yards.

Therefore, there's no real reason it HAS to be the QB that runs it. Put someone in there that has good lower body strength, out some big guys behind him, and run it.

You can run other plays out of the formation but you are right its a little harder than formations for half back dives.

Thats BS. We are perfectly capable putting chips in a ball, Setting up a mesh to track the ball. You know instantaneous how far the ball traveled to the millimeter. You don't need to review.

We have been using this mesh concept since at least 2007 when I set it up for a bank. The military uses it, business, banks. This is well established tech. If the NFL doesn't have techs to set up a mesh correctly, hire a company that does. There are probably thousands of them these days.

5G and edge computing would seemingly make this very simple. And nearly every stadium in the NFL has 5G mesh coverage in their stadiums now - the fans are using it. The players uniforms and helmets have 100's of sensors in them, feeding data back to the cloud for analysis.

It seems very basic to implement something like this for spotting the ball. It's weird.
