Let's Talk About the Cheaters (AKA Patriots Week)

Nothing would make me more happy to get on track with a huge win against the most fraudulent organization in the NFL in their own building. Need Pacheco, Smith, Tranquill, and Cook back soon. Also, need Bolton to play his usual snap count.

Could be the last time Reid and Belichick faceoff. Time to put Belichick out of his misery and send him into retirement.

Chiefs - 30

Spygaters - 3

Wrong. Please explain to me the following:

1. Why did the Pats illegally videotape their opponents for 7 straight years, which just happened to coincide with the rise of Tom Brady? And no it wasn't about the location of the camera - you are not allowed to video tape defensive signals period. You could film pretty much anything else.

2. Why did the Pats tell their camera guys to dress up in "Kraft Productions" or NFL films t-shirts to hide what they were doing?

3. Why did the Pats illegally film over 40 games during this period?

4. If Belichick were so innocent and misinterpreted the rules, why didn't he stop in 2006 when the league said what he was doing was in violation of the rules? I'm guessing it's because it gave the Pats a significant advantage. Otherwise he'd be a colossal idiot for continuing to do something illegal that wasn't helping the team.

I have more questions for you, which I know you won't be able to answer. But I'll save that for later.

Sorry to destroy your whole world.

Up until September of 2006, a reasonable person would have thought it was perfectly legal under NFL rules. A literal reading of the rules would just indicate that you couldn't tape an opponent during the current game and then use it that day. Belichick made a mistake in not reevaluating his position on the rule when the NFL sent out a letter clarifying the rule.

Belichick believes in turning over every stone to win. He told the truth when he said to Robert Kraft, video taping signals wasn't in the top 100 things most important to winning from a coaching perspective.

But if Belichick and his staff could do a 150 things to help increase the odds of a win, he would try to get as many of them done as possible.

If these tapes helped winning so much explain this.
1992 Patriots before Bledsoe 2-14 (and had been pathetic for several years)
1993 Bledsoe first year 5-7
1994 Bledsoe 10-6
1995 Bledsoe 6-9
1996 Bledsoe 11-6 (Parcells leaves after Patriots make and lose SB)
1997 Bledsoe 10-6 pete carroll named coach
1998 Bledsoe 8-6
1999 Bledsoe 8-8 Pete Carroll fired after this season
2000 Bledsoe 5-11 Belichick's first season and Patriots taping games.
2001 Bledsoe 0-2
2001 Brady 11-3 and then 3-0 SB.
2002 Brady 9-7 despite Brady leading NFL with 28 TD passes.
2003 Brady 14-2
2004 Brady 14-2

If taping offensive and defensive signals was so significant, why didn't Bledsoe do well with those tapes? Bledsoe 5-13 with Belichick sometimes taping games.

Bledsoe went 35-35 after leaving NE.

Why did Patriots continue to win after Spygate including a 17-0 regular season?

Literally every NFL team tries to steal signals which is why NFL teams change them. Why do you think coaches and not just the Patriots would sign players from other teams practice squads before they play certain opponents. In part to get signals/tendencies and any information that may give a slight edge. But ultimately if you focus too much on this stuff during a game, you may not focus on other stuff that is more important such as lining up correctly.

Except when Belichick was told to stop he didn't. Had he been so eager to follow the rules he would have stopped the minute he got the memo. No, the real reason he kept doing it past 2006 was because it was HELPING the team in a major way.

It's a game of inches, my friend. Every little bit of cheating helps. And if it wasn't in the top 100 of coaching then why continue to to do it for 7 straight years? Very clear that Belichick was lying about spygate's effectiveness. You don't videotape your opponents signals for that long a period unless it was helpful. One or two years? Fine - you try it and give up. But 7 years? That tells me they had an elaborate cheating system in place.

Bledsoe was only in at QB for 1 year under Belichick. Brady was a much better QB, but the bottom line is he was aided by Spygate to help him read defenses even better as a young QB. And besides, if Spygate was so ineffective, why continue to the practice for 7 years? For no reason? Do you really think Belichick is that stupid? He's one of the smartest minds in NFL history. We're not talking Josh McDaniels here (who by the way continued to videotape his opponents in Denver...again, for no reason, right?).

Because the Pats were a good football team during that period. But there's a difference between being a good football team and a legitimate Super Bowl champion that won without cheating. Besides, the 2007 season was more about the Pats getting lucky in certain games (vs Giants, Eagles, Ravens, etc.) and trying to get revenge on everyone for doubting them. They failed in a major way. If you don't win the SB, the 16-0 regular season is meaningless.

Ever think about why the Brady choked the last game of the 2007 season to the Giants? Because our boy Steve Spagnolo, then Giants D coordinator, disguised his signals in the wake of Spygate. Brady was later quoted as saying he couldn't read the Giants exotic blitz schemes in that game. Bill's buddy Ernie Adams couldn't help Brady in that game and it resulted in the most embarrasing loss in NFL history.

If every team changes their signals "all the time," then why continue the practice of illegally stealing them for 7 years? Clearly it was helping the Pats - otherwise there'd be no reason to steal signs in this manner. And you are assuming that defensive coordinators were in fact changing their signals each game. What if they used signals from previous years? The Pats literally had tapes on coaches from multiple years. They could easily crack the code at halftime. Ever wonder why the Pats were so good at adjusting at halftime?

So the correct answer to my question as to how many legitimate Super Bowls the pats have is 3. This ties KC and a bunch of other teams. SF, Pitt, Dallas, and the Giants have more than NE.

I am really looking forward to Andy and Pat escorting Belichick to the gates of hell on his way out of the league.
