But the new rules on post June 1 cuts is that you only take that season worth of outstanding bonus (in Hitchens case, the signing and restructure bonuses) with the remaining bonuses on the following year's cap. Those bonuses will be paid for through rollover created by the $7.8 million in base salary you've saved. The Chiefs can still cut him after June 1 next season (or before with the 6/1 designation, again per the new league rules).

They don't pay me to make that call; just saying what I'd do. Teams do irrational things and ignore sunk cost fallacies all the time. But if they have a 2nd straight season of justifying that contract because of a 'complicated scheme' or some other such nonsense, especially with Ragland suddenly looking MUCH better than Hitchens, I just don't know what the hell else they can do with him. It makes zero sense to pay him a $7.8 million base salary next season even there's a bitter pill to swallow in moving on from him. Not at his present level of production.

I’m not worried about it seeing as Veach’s strength so far has been finding value guys the same as Dorsey.
Ward, Nnandi, Hardman, Thornhill, Saunders, Rankin, Ogbah (Fenton appears promising for a small sample size). Those are the kind of moves we have to make moving forward. Sammy’s loss is mitigated bc of Hardman We can easily cut Erving and have Rankin be the emergency swing tackle Wiz could be a nice, cheap backup G vet option for another year We need to focus on LB, corner and a new C. We don’t need to spend big on weapons for Pat. Get him a height/weight/speed receiver in the mid rd’s. He’s proven he can make them look good (see Conley, Robinson and Pringle).

I’d rather see him admit his mistakes and cut Hitchens/Watkins....then try and make yourself look competent by holding onto both and ****ing the team over.

![]() Like I said, that plan requires a LOT of new starting caliber players. That's why I made the average at $5 million; you can probably get away with having a player or two in that lot at the $1-2 million range by using the Claiborne/Ogbah/Breeland approach and getting guys on short-term, make good deals. Do that for half those guys and you've created enough wiggle to maybe pursue a Schobert kind of player on the market. But if you're looking for as much flexibility as possible and you think that you can get someone to give you below average MLB play for a lot less than you're paying Hitchens to provide you below average MLB play, you have to take that chance.

There is no way on Gods green earth they're gonna run with a 2-3-4 of Hardman, Pringle and Kemp next season. That's just a disaster waiting to happen. Hardman's getting a lot of love right now because you can flex him into space and find ways to make him useful, but that's the only real way to use him. Just assuming he's going to suddenly become a worthwhile route runner OR become a savvy enough player to pick up the X routes as well as Watkins has is a damn iffy proposition. Tyreek Hill showed innate WR skills from the moment he was sent out into the pattern. Hardman, OTOH, still looks like a fast guy playing football more than he looks like a wide receiver to me. He has value, but it's important not to peter principle him here and ask more of him than he can realistically provide. At that point, you're eliminating the value he DOES provide.

Nor is Hitchens.
At this point I'd flip the two to see if we can salvage Hitchens in the Will role he played well in Dallas and give Ragland a tryout as a potential Mike going forward. Because I'm pretty much done waiting for Hitchens to be a viable middle linebacker.

Dylan Moses was a top ranked ILB for the 2020 draft but tore his ACL a couple months ago. He could be a nice value for us in the draft since he should fall. He should be ready for training camp.
Speaking of, it’s Garrett Bradbury week! I poked fun at DJLN for wanting him so early, but I might join that bandwagon next Spring. I’ve watched Wisconsin OL Tyler Biadasz. He’s next years Bradbury. After what I’ve seen from Pat limping around? Yeah I wouldn’t mind taking that beast with our first rd pick. Count me in DJ
