With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

heh, Cowherd just had a segment on his radio show where he basically said that fans that go out and boo their team and who only root for their team when they are good are the "true fans".

If you are a fan who continues to support mediocrity or less over and over than you are basically enabling ownership to not give a sh*t about ever striving for better.


Of course the problem with this is that when attendence drops ownership threatens to move to a new city.

Yeah, it's Our Time.......to slit our wrists.

Its happened repeatedly over the last 6-7 years. Teams have made the playoffs and even the World Series with a smaller payroll than the Royals. Which is why sure it'd be great if Glass spent more money... but there have certainly been GM's doing more working with owners doing less than Glass has. It's no excuse for the front office.

We have the prospects. He's controlled only through '13, though. Not saying don't do it. Just saying.

Josh Johnson would be nice. He is from Tulsa area I believe as well.

Josh johnson has had nagging shoulder issues, but he is great. We would need to extend him, but we could provide a lot of incentive by increasing his 2013 salary from the 13.5 and wrapping that into the deal.

Nah, none that really spring to mind.

I think the manager's role is greatly overestimated. It's more about managing the clubhouse and staying out of the way than anything else.

Example: Ron Washington in Texas. I would say pretty much any major league manager would achieve his level of success with that team and front office behind them.

Just so long as they're not morons that bunt in the 2nd inning, I don't care...

BTW this is somewhat true, but ovr 162 game season a few boneheaded game management mistakes can add up and cost you wins. Maybe at most a manager is worth 3-5 wins/losses imo. Of course that can be the difference between the playoffs and staying home.

Bottom line, Ned Yost needs to go. We cannot afford his mistakes when we start to compete. Time to make the change now and start some continuity for later.
