I didn't hear shit I watched what the coach did with the ball with movement of the ball the extending like he was handing off to the running back and it appeared to me that he did exactly what the coach showed him to do out from under center.

Mahomes did one rep and that was good enough for the coach he did not make him do it again so it looked to me like he did it right for what the coach wanted him to do IMO. Then they went on to other drills.

Mostly I'm saying Patrick is getting instructions on what to do after he gets the ball out from under center. They do that in practice you know. Every quarterback gets' those kind of instructions. It was cool to see it like you would see on Hard Knocks.

Definitely. The bottom line is, the #1 reason why we were the 'perfect fit' for Mahomes was because KC can provide the environment that the kid needs. He is a playmaker and I am sure he will make a few this preseason, but people can't let that blur the long-term vision for Pat and this franchise.

Your original analogy still stands firm as a perfect description of what we are dealing with here. Reid and the staff are in the process of developing their QB masterpiece, and that should not be interrupted just yet. When the time is right, Reid will know it.

I agree. I'm sure the Alex Smith haters will be screaming for him to start the minute he completes his first screen pass but Reid knows what he is doing and he isn't going to listen to the Alex Smith haters/morons.

He will take his time and develop Mahomes slowly.

I don't think there are really that many posters that want Mahomes to start right now. Even with a decent pre-season I would suspect that 20% or perhaps even less than 10% of the board would be calling for that.

I found the press conferences today from Smith and Mahomes to be very telling.... the reporters asked each about what it was like preparing for their first preseason game.

On one side of the spectrum, you had Smith saying this:

Quote:
“I carried a lot of weight, a lot of anxiety,” Alex said to the media on Monday. “I was starting. A lot of expectations, I put a lot of pressure on myself. Sometimes you are your own worst enemy. If you can just go out and let your natural abilities take over and play and get out of your own way, that’s easy to say, hard to do sometimes. But, yeah, as a player, it took me a while to learn that and get past that. It is definitely what I remember looking back.”

The next question Alex was very honest again saying that Mahomes is more natural.

“Just that, right?” Alex said. “It’s just ball, go play. He’s different than me. Everybody is. He is wired different. I mean that in a good way, he is just more natural. I think he has a better grasp on it. I was pretty worked up, like I said, in starting and a lot of expectations. It is just a different place, and I think that is a positive for him. I think he is in a better place so he will be able to just go out and play.”
Video here: http://www.kcchiefs.com/media-center...8-494677ea750f

Then, you have Mahomes saying this:

Quote:
“I mean my first game at Tech I came in in the fourth quarter,” Mahomes said Monday via quotes from the Chiefs. “I was a little excited and a little jumpy, but I feel like now with having Alex (Smith) in front of me and Tyler (Bray) and the guys I can kind of learn off of the them and then when my time comes I have a little more experience going into it.”
Video here: http://www.kcchiefs.com/media-center...d-56e3cb5cb18e

Those quotes, to me, really sound like two guys who think that the best thing for Mahomes (or any young QB) is to come in and learn with low expectations. Smith certainly sounds like a guy who is envious of Mahomes' current situation.

What do people in here think. Should a QB who is drafted out of college sit at least a year and learn in the NFL

I'd go with if you **** a supermodel in the next 30 days would be a fare option too. Probably better chance there, unless our defense goes 2000 Ravens this year.

You shouldn't throw someone out there that is totally lost.

But if Reid feels like he has the hang of it then he should play. He's probably going to learn more playing than he would sitting on the sideline.

Totally depends on if the coach feels the player has a good grasp on the system or not.

I do NOT buy into the fact that EVERY quarterback coming from college is best suited to sit for a season....which is why your question will NOT get a lot of simple yes or no responses.

This is my logic as well. With QB being the most coveted position in the NFL, it takes a high pick to get one worth the investment. Unfortunately, that also means that new QB has to run the rest of the team that earned the high draft pick the season prior. When you combine the pressure of a new QB, a shitty team surrounding him, and hopeful fans, you tend to build a receipe for disaster.

Since it seems more rare for a high 1st rd QB to sit for year, I would like to see the success rate of that process being completed and uninterrupted.

I pretty much always feel it best for a rookie QB to sit that yr 1... but it's uncommon for me to feel he should sit for longer than that... ( if talking about a 1st rd pick) .. and dependent on whether there is already a very good starting vet in front of him.

Mahomes will start in 2018.. for better or worse. Not even worried about great success in 2018... but I'd like him to develop into a strong starter soon after.

The thing that I am battling myself with is whether or not playing Mahomes would really be running the risk of ruining him. I believe, given the coaching we have, and the strong supporting cast, that we wouldnt "ruin" Mahomes.

Now there is also the question of whether or not he can be successful as a rookie QB. Well, IMO, what Alex brings to the table is what a backup QB brings to the table. So I absolutely think Mahomes could replicate what Alex does production wise. While Mahomes would obviously make more mistakes, I wholeheartedly believe that the big plays he would bring would offset the mistakes.

So would that version of Mahomes as a rookie be better than what Alex brings? I am not sure. But what I am confident in saying is that he would not be so much worse to the point where our season goes to shit.

I am still on board with Alex starting for now. But come week 8, I dont know that I still will be.
You knew it was going to be a year either way, no need to let camp and the approaching season hype you in to any other line of reasoning. It is what it is.
The good news is, look at how fast he is picking this shit up. I will absolutely, 1000% guarantee you that Mahomes starts for this club in 2018. Anyone trying to hold back the reaper from Smith's sad ass is living in a complete ****ing fantasy world.
Also, I take great pleasure in watching at least ONE known moron eat his own shit in this affair when he argued like a loud, screaming, muppet-bitch for two years prior to this draft that, "TEAMS WHO TAKE 1ST ROUND QB'S DON'T SIT THEM FOR A YEAR".

Stupid ****.

Oh well, what's new at CP amirite?!

Mahomes in 2018; bank it.
