It's actually a good thing that Veach isn't willing to mortgage the future just to placate a fanbase in the short term. It would be quite easy to do exactly that and say **** the consequences two or three years down the road. He recognized though that the Chiefs can't afford to do that if they're going to remain a sustainable contender in the years to come with Mahomes.

Chiefs remain the #3 betting favorite to win the SB right now (behind BUF and TB) after the Hill deal. They're not out of the picture to be sure. Mahomes is that good.
