50 Beers to Try Before You Die

Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

http://www.wisdeo.com/articles/view_post/2984
(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

Dark Lord Day Weekend seemed like a good time to try some Chicago area stouts.

Tried and pictured in reverse order of BeerAdvocate reviews.

On and On says it's a stout, "blending into a stout fluent in the language of barleywine"... pours and maybe even leans towards barleywine. Good stuff.

Deth's Tar, a straightforward, big/bold/thick stout. I think I tried this one at Revolution (or maybe a variant), doesn't disappoint, and the body really stuck out drinking it right after On and On.

VSOD, reminiscent of BCBS or the best years of Dragon's Milk, but thicker than both... it has that hard to describe bourbon barrel sweetness to it that makes it the winner of the weekend.

I'm at Fate's having a Belgian Trippel and it is fantastic.

Tastes just a tinge sour, then has some banana notes, it's dry and finishes nice.

Definitely a favorite.

I just decided to make a career change about a year and a half ago.

I work for a beer distributor now and I've drank so much beer the last 1.5 years.

Good, good stuff.

Definitely going to be a mainstay in this thread.

Looks a bit too commie for my liking on the branding side. Although let's not pretend that 99% of craft brewers aren't raging lefties.

You must not be FROM Wisky then, that statement is outrageous to the natives.

I have a good friend that always has Spotted Cow at her house. I have one about once a year to see if I will ever understand the hype. It never works, it is beer flavored beer.

I'm from Wichita.

So, it checks out.

But, New Glarus, outside of their actual brewery is just so average.

And honestly, a lot of the Green Bay breweries are very average.

New Glarus makes some really good stuff. But they aren't Moon Man or Spotted Cow. Those are OK but nothing special.

They've done some wild ales and lambic style beers over the years that were world class and super sought after in the beer nerd trader world.

Finally got around to drinking these, minus this years Deth's Tar, which I'd compare as Rev's version of BCBS in that it differs every year but doesn't really variate too much and feel they're even steven within the context of who's is better

This years On and On definetely leans towards the barleywine side imo. So if you like sweeter "stouts" without the adjuncts its on point (collab with Half Acre who owns Chicago in BA stouts, primarly because they focus on like 3 or 4 instead of a dozen like the rest)

DBVOSD is nothing but a barrel + age flavor showcase. Rich, decadent, riding the line of almost too much but (hopefully) we're all here for the barrel and blend and thats where I feel Rev bests Goose (not that you were comparing apples to apples between the 2). Goose producing for the masses vs Rev producing because they're invested in their product
