***The Official MMA Thread***

Excited about an upcoming fight? Want to make predictions, or just give people a heads-up that there are some fights on? We can do it here.

(Also a good place to complain, dicuss, and agrue about the outcomes)

Simply Red. Hope you enjoyed the fight. Holly Holm's calves resembled Jay Cutler's biceps (not that QB n00b, the bodybuilder).

Have a goodnight my friend.

I just think that casual fans are fickle in that they only want the monster. You all sound like dedicated fans that actually appreciate the sport rather than the spectacle, so you'll watch for the matchups, not the crossover story.

Lesnar didn't really have any crossover appeal after he lost. Same with Slice. I think it will be interesting to see what happens to Rousey's marketability after this, though.
That's not true concerning Lesnar. He lost his first UFC fight, and was still by far their biggest earner during his tenure, I believe.

Yep. Lesnar tapped to Mir fair and square, and was still easily the biggest draw in the UFC. Even when Velasquez picked him apart, his fight with Overeem afterwards was one of the largest of the year.

Good point then. How much of that was WWE-driven, given his background?

Honestly? 90 percent probably. His first fight with Randy Couture broke PPV buying records, and it had nothing to do with Couture's 45 year old broken down body.

I believe Brock was in a category of his own as far as draw is concerned. I think he could come back tomorrow and do over a million buys (which is huge numbers for the UFC). He's a heavyweight, which are huge draws to begin with. He also looked like a ****ing beast. You really felt as if you were watching monsters collide when he fought. Lastly, the WWE crossover was really big. I know lots of WWE fans bought every Brock PPV just because they wanted to see how he did. I saw YouTube videos of WWE fans with absolutely no MMA knowledge, hanging on every second of his fights. Screaming the silliest shit. "Just put him in a sleeper hold, Brock!" It was a huge money draw for Dana, but it was almost embarrassing for the UFC.

I kinda look at the Rousey situation the same way. The promos and hype her and her opponents up as the best in the world, and then you tune in and it's subpar talent. Great for Dana's wallet, fun for casual fans, but does nothing to lend credibility to the sport.

i dont know if you noticed it or not, but she couldnt get in. she tried to close the gap a few times. once she got ****ing tossed, 2nd time Holm easily got loose and was out. In 10 fights Holm has never been taken to the ground i think i read. She's 10-0.

I knew this was going to end the way it did. Before the fight i told my bro in law, its going to end on a kick to the ****ing head watch. Then bam, kick to the head and it was over.

Holm is a damned great fighter. She's not going to be to easy to beat, but she is 34 after all. I dont see anyone in the UFC right now that could beat her.

I didn't see the fight, but when my son texted me that RR didn't touch gloves, we both agreed that she deserved to get her ass kicked. Well, it happened.

Never, Ever, EVER, EVER, EVER, disrespect your sport! She did, and it wasn't a mistake after seeing clips. It was her trying to, well, look badass. Maybe she knew what was about to happen!

After years of coaching wrestler, a wrestler who doesn't shake hands is a wrestler who most wrestlers, coaches, officials, and fans want to see lose. RR did that in an instant with one stupid move, even before she took her first well-deserved punch.

This is a silly take. She had opportunities to try to take her down and TRY to submit her.

Nothing says she definitely would have gotten it done.
