Are the Bills overhyped?

Update: Yes, the Bills were overhyped.

So the reverse roles of the 90s. The Chiefs would skull **** the Bills in the regular season and the Bills would win when it matters, the playoffs.

Fair enough. That makes sense. I do acknowledge they are a Top 3 team at worst in the league.

The only reason why many don’t think KC is not as dominant is because they didn’t blow out a very good LAC team that is easily talented enough to win the AFC. I can definitely see why people are saying they look better. But who's to say that KC wouldn't have kicked those teams' asses and looked great doing it?

I expect the Titans game in Arrowhead to be similar. Would Buffalo have looked any more dominant in AZ than the Chiefs did? It would be hard to be much better than 37-7 to start the 4th quarter, and a first down on every other play.

And who's to say that Buffalo wouldn't struggle with LAC? I wish they played this year.

Probably going to be sent to DC for this, but I think it's at least a little about the 'mold'. They'll hype a black QB if he's a 'dual threat', athletic, running QB. If it's a cerebral passer, they're going to hype the white guys. Mahomes doesn't fit the narrative. He's not black enough, and not white enough to be the poster boy. I know that's going to get me flamed, but I see no other explanation- and it's probably not even conscious.

I think LAC is just uniquely well designed to beat KC (and they still typically don't manage to do so).

Derwin James being able to lock onto Kelce is just such a big deal. There just aren't many guys with his combination of physicality and athleticism. That said, he's NOT as athletic as Diggs. So in that regard, the Chiefs are a better matchup for SD.

Additionally, I think Gabe Davis is just a better 2nd option that we have. And while the Chiefs has a fantastic interior offensive line, that's not where the Chargers make their bones. They attack the Ts and I think the Bills have an edge there w/ Dawkins and Brown.

The Chargers, as well they should have been, are designed to be a difficult matchup for the Chiefs. And so no, I don't think the Bills would struggle with them as much as we do. But I don't really give a rip.

It does kindof surprise me that the Chiefs haven't seemed too terribly interested in trying to counter anything LAC is doing. Or Buffalo for that matter.

They're racing the track and not the drivers. And in a perfect world that's how you do it. But that approach is gonna bite you a bit during 'reload' cycles like this where you're not where you want to be yet, nor are you specifically tailored to get through your primary competition when they're at their respective apexes (and I think it's fair to say both SD and Buffalo are at that apex right now).

But like I said - better win it now, fellas. Because this likely is as good as it gets for you fellas.

Buffalo has yet to prove they can stay consistent enough to gain home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Sure they look good in the prime time games where they want to make a statement but they also had a stretch of dumbass losses. The question for me is can they seize the opportunity this year with a tougher schedule.

I hadn't thought about it that way, but yeah, I probably would too. Hurts went to OU and grew as a player, and then came into the league and had to fight for his spot.

Plus, I think Flores probably ****ed up Tua at some level. You just don't pull a guy when things get real and expect him to be fine next week.

But Tua isn't the same dude as he was at Alabama. He seemed to move and throw a LOT easier and smoother then. Maybe it was the hip injury, maybe he has to try harder because of the speed, I really don't know but it's perplexing.

Yes. They are a bag of shit. Who is scary in the NFC. Rodgers does Rodgers things so there's that, but holy balls they looked bad. And Brady has the refs and good receivers, so there is that, but he looks like the ****ing crypt keeper and isn't practicing.

After that, here are your QBs:

Rodgers - Obviously Good
Fields
Cousins
Goff

Garoppollo
Geno
Kyler who we already wrecked
Stafford I didn't watch him last week, but week one looked like he belonged in a retirement home.

Hurts
Wentz
Cooper Rush
Daniel Jones

Marcus Mariota
Baker
Crypt Keeper Brady
Mostly Dead Rapist Winston.

Yeesh.

Yep. They looked great last year crushing teams but they also got shut down by teams like Jacksonville and literally got run off the field by New England.

Despite their success, they tend to have a couple of bad losses every year. Mahomes just doesn’t have those. The teams that beat us are almost always really good teams.

You’re right that the Bills are not unbeatable. NO team is unbeatable.

But to answer your question on what the Bills did this off-season to become stronger:

- They signed Von Miller who is drawing double teams and RB blocking help, which has freed up the rest of the d-line to cause havoc. I questioned this signing when it happened, but it’s working. Incredibly well.
- They drafted 2 cornerbacks, both of whom that are starting and look really good so far.
- The Bills numerous first round draft picks on the d-line are now a year older and they’re starting to dominate. Ed Oliver and Greg Rousseau are wrecking the linemen in front of them.
- Signed Tim Settle and Jordan Phillips - two starting quality D-Linemen that are depth on the Bills, allowing them to rotate and keep guys healthy.
- Josh Allen has become very patient and methodical. He is throwing short, long, and intermediate. The announcers during the game have compared him to Brady with his new methodical nature, and though I think that’s an extreme stretch, I get what they’re saying (he used to force balls instead of being patient).

All in all, it’s only been two games. But that’s all we can go on so far.

The Bills have won their last 20 games in a row by double digits. No team has done that since 1941. Not the Chiefs, not the Patriots, not the Greatest Show On Turf Rams. I think that deserves some respect but I also know it can change in an instant.

Well yeah but they play in BUFFALO. So they should probably look to actually beat teams when the weather is bad, not make excuses.
