With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

I have been a Royals supporter for a while. They aren't my favorite but are second behind....sorry, the Yankees. So, that being said, I am wondering if you guys can give me some fantasy advice about your future star at catcher. His numbers so far look great and I have read this thread a decent amount, but curious if anybody is so kind as to give me a synopsis on the guy.

Basically I have a ton of hitting and not much pitching. Chance to maybe trade Mauer for some pitching and Perez is a FA. Mauer is pretty close to a lock for his numbers. How consistant do you think Perez will be and is there a big risk still with the knee? Any answer is apprectiated.

Either way, here is wishing you guys have a great second half. I told all my friends the Royals were gonna burst after hearing you guys all offseason. Hopefully it happens.

The K has always seemed to be more of a doubles and triples park than a home run park... at least for the Royals. It's always been that way. Maybe it's a talent thing. But even at the height of the home run insanity with a team full of very good offensive players like Sweeney, Dye, Beltran etc... guys struggled to get to 30 HR. And that's with the fences in 10 feet closer than they are now.

I like the leagues where if you already have 2 HR's you just have to touch first on all subsequent HR's

It really is. And it isn't for lack of trying. I remember when he, Rush Limbaugh
and some other people went in together to try and buy the club. Sadly they were turned down and Glass got it instead.

Wasn't the Glass bid the lowest bid to purchase the team as well and was the one that was accepted?

It looks like jacking up his slider percentage is what has made Mendoza an almost tolerable starter. Pathetic as it is, he's been the best one since June 6. What's sad is, we aren't doing the things we need to do to take advantage of success with roster fillers like Mendoza. If we had gotten a 3 in FA, might have been a big difference.
