A female official will work a Big 12 football game for the first time this season, and it will happen in the Sunflower State.

Catherine Conti will be part of the officiating team when Kansas opens the year against Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 6 at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced the news Monday during a state-of-the-conference address at the conference’s football media days.

Conti is an experienced line judge with dreams of working in the NFL.

Bowlsby said he was proud to add Conti to the Big 12’s officiating team. He thinks her appearance should help other aspiring female officials chase their dreams, but he also thinks she is good at her job.

“She’s a darn good official,” Bowlsby said. “It’s a good opportunity for her and for us.”

Emmanuel Mudiay, former SMU basketball commit, agrees to $1.2 million deal to play in China

Emmanuel Mudiay has agreed to a $1.2 million contract with Guangdong of the China Basketball Association, the richest overseas contract ever for a high school player, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Mudiay, a 6-foot-5 guard, is considered a lottery pick in the Class of 2015. With the Chinese season ending in March, Mudiay's plan will be to return to the United States and use the remaining few months to prepare for the 2015 draft in June, a source said. Mudiay has also taken out insurance policies to protect him in China against injury that could impact his future earnings, a source said.
