Lamar Jackson wasn't, isn't, and never will be better than Patrick Mahomes

This "Lamar Jackson is in the same league as Mahomes" nonsense on every football related show I see needs to stop.

Lamar Jackson, on the biggest stage, has now shit down his leg in both opportunities. Lamar is a player who has to have everything around him working perfectly to have success. Put him down 2 scores and ask him to carry the team, he cannot answer the bell.

There's a big difference between a running quarterback, and a quarterback who can run. Lamar Jackson and The Ravens ran 88 plays and put up 12 points.

Jackson attempted 59 passes, only threw one touchdown, but also threw two picks and lost a fumble. 12 points on 59 pass attempts should tell you all you need to know about Lamar as a QB when the lights are the brightest.

Nobody would bat an eye if before the game, soneone told us Pat would put the ball up 59 times. Matter of fact, id be pretty excited to see how many points and yards he would put up in that span of plays.

When things got bad for both QBs, you saw the odds on favorite to win the MVP this year get visible frustrated, press, and ultimately fold. He was nowhere to be seen trying to work out what was happening, rallying his team, he simply pouted on the sideline as his team fell further behind.

The reigning MVP had literally no quit. Its one thing to say after the fact, that we had faith all along, its quite another for that to be true.

Down 24, think about that for a moment. 24. Mahomes is captured, in that moment on the sideline saying we have everything we want. Everyones already counted us the **** out, so go do something special.

Then, to walk the walk after talking the talk, leading the team to 7 straight touchdowns and 8 scoring drives, throwing 5 touchdown passes, and displaying a fiery emotion that if you dont feel anything when you see this kid going nuts after a huge play, call the coroner, because youre already dead.

The two qbs could not be further apart. Jackson cannot hold Mahomes jock when it comes to putting the team on his back.

Lamar should consider signing with KC as a running back. Its the only way barring injury to Mahomes, that hes ever getting a ring.

Mahomes is the MVP. Its not even close. Lamar is a running back executing the halfback pass play about 20-25 times a game.

Jacksons first two years have ended with dud playoff performances.

Mahomes first two years as a starter sees his team hosting back to back AFC title games for a frachise that in its entire history never hosted a single one before he arrived.

That's what Belichick did to Pat in 2018.

Spags is treating Lamar like a rookie

Patrick's growth against the blitz is impressive. Ravens blitzed the crap out of him and his passer rating was over 150. Absurd! The next step is to figure out how to torch the Chargers defense for more than 1 quarter of the game. It's gonna happen at some point.

Yes and no.

It's also evidence that Jackson lacks any real 'man-beaters' like Hill. Watkins is hard to man up because of his footwork and hand-fighting skills, so you can't press him and he's physical enough to body you off and then fight for yards after the catch.

Andrews is no Kelce to boot. You can't man up Kelce - you can do so w/ Andrews because as strong as he is and as soft as his hands are, he's not a premier athlete or route-runner.

In many ways, the prevalence of Cover 0 is demonstrative of the limitations of Jackson's weapons. Brown's the only guy that can really beat man coverage regularly and he can't do it in a variety of ways (still blows my mind that people treat him like anything more than an overhyped Hardman).

I think a lot of teams have been playing zone against Lamar because they want the DBs to have their heads up and the play in front of them for when Jackson breaks the pocket. But if there's more and more tape like this that demonstrates that you can play man WITHOUT the risk of big plays and w/ a rush that focuses on containing him....boy, that bodes really poorly for Jackson going forward.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Lamar tries to do this himself. The devil could end up in the details and it could go REAL poorly for him if he's not careful.
Pretty crazy. Didn't realize that. I've gained a huge respect for good agents after watching Leigh steinberg in action. It's crazy to think how blessed we are with all this. Mahomes was lined up with the perfect coach and agent.

For the vast majority of placeholder type 3-4 players, they don't have that kind of versatility and it makes it a lot harder for you to roll viable sub-packages without dedicated sub personnel. So now your roster is just one or two players shorter.

But even as a base unit, I just hate it. It's too cute by half.
I'm reading this and watching the horror show in my head of Justin Houston tackling Antonio Bryant 50 yards down the field in the playoffs.

If you had told me we'd allow 7.5 yards per rush and the Ravens would score 13 points I'd have laughed at you.

Run defense just doesn't matter when you have an elite QB and a guy like Spags running your D with these pass rushers.

Our run defense is "situational."

If I'm a DC about to prepare for Mahomes, I'm getting all my guys together and forcing them to consume all the tape they can of the Chargers defense going against Mahomes from the past couple of years. And hoping I can get a Bosa/Ingram performance out of my ends, that part is important.

And still no healthy Okafor or a Breeland on the back end. This unit is going to be filthy in December and the playoffs.

Very few teams have the talent required to pull that off. It's certainly worth a shot to try it.

Okafor won’t be an upgrade on Charlton or K-Pass against the Ravens, IMO. One thing I have always been surprised about with Okafor is that he’s more athletic than I expected and a LOT lighter in his seat than I did as well.

He just doesn’t have the functional strength I thought he would have, even if he has a bit more burst.

Against the Ravens it’s more important to hold your ground than explode upfield. I think that’s why we had so much success against them. Our dudes are strong enough that they weren’t often moved.

Breeland, OTOH, would be a damn nice asset against them. Smart, physical DBs can really do damage against them.

You need to pray that Schwartz and Fisher both decide to get beaten like drums all day.

The sickest part is, even IF you could get yourself two elite DE performances and the tackles under perform, Mahomes is still going to win the game in the end.

If your offense cannot put up 28-30+, and you allow the score to be close and give Mahomes a chance to tie, or win, the odds are overwhelmingly good that hes going to destroy you.

The last game he lost was his first game back from the dislocation. It took a Damien Williams fumble 6, combined with the last live on TV pant shitting by Andy/Eric with the dumbest 3rd n 2 playcall ever where a first down wins the game, (one read te screen to BLAKE BELL??!) and then a special teams gaffe allowing the tying FG attempt to be blocked for Mahomes to lose to the Titans.

Essentially, the only thing that can stop Mahomes, is the Chiefs themselves.

Interesting article from Bucky Brooks. Echoes a lot of what we said leading up to the game.

If somehow Lamar Jackson ended up on the Chiefs, for some insane reason, there would never even be a QB controversy.

He would be a Taysom Hill role playing character, or be permanently moved to RB.

There is no competition. This is Jordan vs Ewing. It’s not a thing at this point.
