With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Alright guys as if we didn't need more reason love Perez I have some more. I ran some numbers on the offensive statistics with and without Perez. Here are the results:

In 10 games Perez has started we have scored 54 runs for an average of 5.4 RPG.

In the 15 games since Perez has come back the team as a whole (with and without Perez starting) has scored 74 runs for a total of 4.9 RPG.

In the 15 games prior to Perez coming back we scored 53 runs for an average of 3.5 RPG.

In all games without Perez prior to him coming back we scored 251 runs in 66 games for an average of 3.8 RPG.

Those differences in run production are ridiculous and Perez's impact is undeniably huge. We score over 1.5 more RPG with Perez in the starting lineup. And taking the most recent 15 games before Perez we scored 1.4 more RPG including starts by backup catchers, and in just games Perez started the difference is almost 2 whole runs at 1.9 more RPG.

I'd love to see us go into Detroit and win 2 of 3. That said, I hope Sanchez absolutely gets SHELLED tomorrow night so as to put the final nail in the coffin of his career with the Kansas City Royals.

With how this season is playing out, it wouldn't shock me to see Sanchez have a line of 6.1 3 8 4 2. With the O scoring 2. Hopefully that's not the case and he puts that line up and we score 5 along the way to winning 2 of three
