Fangio had nearly twice as many total pressures and 5% more pressure rate with Denver than this years Eagles.
Turns out Von Miller at 30 was still damn good, Bradley Chubb was good and Dre’Mont Jones was a solid interior rusher. Fangio also had Justin Simmons who is an all-pro safety who constantly gave Mahomes problems in coverage. Reed Blankenship and CJG are not anywhere near as good of coverage players as Simmons in his prime. Not even close

He gets some nice runs if their tackles can get out into space. They want defenses to stack the box so Hurts can run a simple prayer-ball offense. Win with raw athletic talent and instinct vs scheme. Total polar opposite from what the Chiefs do. |

Is Mailata maybe a tad bit overrated?
Dorance Armstrong (rock chalk) is a nice player, but not on the level of Jones, Karlaftis, or probably even Omenihu absolutely blew past him for a sack. Just one bad play? Or a sign of things to come?

Put Hicks in the box opposite side of Leo. Hurts has had 30 passes only one time since September. The more we force Jalen to throw the higher chance we have to win

Here’s something to inspire some confidence.
During the regular season, the Rams and Commanders were two of the worse run defenses in the league allowing 130 and 138 yards per game. Green Bay, statistically, had a similar run defense to the Chiefs. A difference of like 2 yards per game. Barkley broke 3 long TD runs against the Rams and Commanders combined. Barkley’s long run against the Packers was 17 yards. Averaged 4.8 yards per carry on 25 attempts. The Eagles only had 1 long TD drive (68 yards) against the Packers. Their other TD came on a short field after the fumbled kick return. Their other drives all ended in punts and field goals. Seems obvious to me. Don’t turn the ball over. Make the Eagles drive the length of the field by limiting explosive plays from Barkley.

Eagles are +10 in turnover differential in the postseason. 10 takeaways, 0 giveaways.

Their defense is extremely similar to the Bills but they are not as good.
They have the same exact blitz rate at 19.1%. They rarely blitz. The Bills are significantly better up front. 40 more pressures, nearly 6% better pressure rate and tied for 9th in pressure and pressure %. Bills are around 10th in all of the pass rush stats. But it appears that I was wrong about Baun. Apparently he is PFF’s best coverage backer. I still think he’s not gonna shut down Kelce. Andy puts LB’s in hell and he’s not exactly a speed guy out there.

two more weeks of healing for Watson is nice. I imagine he'll be on Brown most of the day, with McDuffie on Smith? What's our plan for Goedert?
And how do we not let Barkley beat us? Seems like that's the obvious situation. Hurts will be limited physically, but still capable. I think where we can excel in this game is if we generate pressure, he won't be able to wiggle and maneuver super well. This means hurried throws and sack/fumbles. They may counter this with quick passes, so i'd expect a lot of screens to Barkley in space, or WR tunnel screens (which we seem to defend super well).

Welp, the wife is a life-long Eagles fan. Our marriage was able to overcome the last one vs. the Eagles, this one may end up in divorce who knows, but that may be the sacrifice that needs to be made in order to get a Chiefs win so I'll be good w\it (a three-peat will likely only come once in my lifetime so seems like an ok trade to me).
And we're heading to New Orleans on Thursday for a long weekend that was planned months ago. Just hope I don't hear too many Fly Eagles Fly songs on the flight. |

On a yards per play basis, Philly has the best D in the league.

If the Chiefs replicate Green Bay’s defensive effort without turning the ball over, the Chiefs will win the game.

I mentioned this before and I'll mention it again.
Vs Washington Barkley had 29 carries for 150 yards and two TD's and they still lost. Vs The Rams he had 26 carries, 205 yards and two TD's. The Rams had the ball in the redzone with a chance to win. Vs The Saints he had 17 carries, 147 yards and two td's. The Eagles hung on to win by three points. Vs the Jags he had 27 carries, 159 yards and 1 td. The Jags had the ball in the redzone late with a chance to win. Vs Washington the first time he had 26 carries, 146 yards and two td's and the Eagles won by one score Vs Carolina he had 20 carries and 126 yards. Panthers had the ball late with a chance to win. Vs Greenbay opening night he had 24 carries, 109 yards and two td's. Greenbay had the ball late with a chance to win (Love then got injured) See the pattern? In the majority of Barkley's best performances the opponant has either won like Washington did or be right on the doorstep of a win like the Rams, Panthers, Greenbay, Jags etc. So even if Barkley plays well, there's still a scenario where KC has the ball late like those other teams did. Bottom line is our defense has faced Henry, Mccafrey, Robinson, Mixon, Cooks, Kamara, Achane etc during during the last 15 months or so. And have come up against running qb's like Lamar twice, Josh four times, Fields etc and even Hurts too. So they've had plenty of experience dealing with what they will see in the superbowl. |
