In a game the Chiefs lost by six points, Alex Smith missed three wide open TDs

And yes he had a clean pocket on the second one.

When has this happened before...against the Steelers...in a crucial game....

Spoiler!

Flame away.

Who can definitively say that Robinson did not shorten his route a step or two? If he did.. Smith wouldn't have known it, as he.. again... was looking left to throw coverage off.

I'm just saying it's possible... and makes a lot more sense than claiming for certain that Smith suddenly has no accuracy.
Unless the route was designed for Robinson to catch the ball three yards out of bounds, I will say it was a bad throw.

I think you are confusing the play I am speaking of. (not the EZ pass)

I wonder why he wouldnt adjust for that if all of his receivers were constantly running 2 steps short.

Also I am HIGHLY impressed with your in depth knowledge of all of the routes and how quickly you studied everything to realize the receivers were running two steps short.

Have you submitted your data to Clark Hunt or Andy or Veach yet? they will think youre a genious.

Calm tf down.

Yeah Alex didn't have a great day. But with no Conley, no Wilson, Kelce not doing much, Hunt being stopped at the line constantly, three replacement O-line men, it wasn't a recipe for a win.

We got beat. It happens. Yeah I would rather have won this game and lose the next one, for tiebreaker purposes, but that's not football. It's a miracle we kept it so close. Raiders game is now what's important. These guys learn. Alex will get a few days to work with the WRs. Seems to me he lost confidence in these new guys so wouldn't throw to them in coverage. Hope he gets the back after a few days practice with them. Reid et al will draw up plays around the new guys. We need to beat the Fade in OAK.

tl;dr: we'll be fine

"In every playoff run there will be a game that your QB has to pull from the fire...."

The team was bad but they weren't so bad that a good Alex Smith performance couldn't have still won them the game.

Instead, he was as bad as the rest of the team was (except for Erving...nobody was as bad as Cameron Erving).

That's damn frustrating. On a shit sunday of a day, I hate that Smith provided the cherry on top. There are so many things about that game that defy reasonable explanation so instead you just end up at "man, the Steelers are just in these guys' heads..."

I asked it in the game thread and I'll ask it again. Can Jordan Devey really be any worse than Erving?

Yeah, I was not on the "Erving was good" bandwagon last week. I saw a guy that was simply not bad.

The problem is that the box 7 for the Steelers is pretty damn average when you get right down to it and yet Erving was terrible. I'm not real sure how you can send him out there again after that performance.

On a day where everyone was pretty shitty, it's hard to stand out. You have to really really suck to stand alone from that lot yesterday. Yet Erving managed to do exactly that.

He was abysmal and I don't think you can play him again outside of an emergency situation. Surely they can get Ehinger out there now.

I thought Devey played OK when he came in for LDT. But I'm no OL expert, so what do I know?

I'm curious to see the angle behind Robinson. I think if that was a catch, he goes into the end zone untouched.
