Lamar Jackson wasn't, isn't, and never will be better than Patrick Mahomes

This "Lamar Jackson is in the same league as Mahomes" nonsense on every football related show I see needs to stop.

Lamar Jackson, on the biggest stage, has now shit down his leg in both opportunities. Lamar is a player who has to have everything around him working perfectly to have success. Put him down 2 scores and ask him to carry the team, he cannot answer the bell.

There's a big difference between a running quarterback, and a quarterback who can run. Lamar Jackson and The Ravens ran 88 plays and put up 12 points.

Jackson attempted 59 passes, only threw one touchdown, but also threw two picks and lost a fumble. 12 points on 59 pass attempts should tell you all you need to know about Lamar as a QB when the lights are the brightest.

Nobody would bat an eye if before the game, soneone told us Pat would put the ball up 59 times. Matter of fact, id be pretty excited to see how many points and yards he would put up in that span of plays.

When things got bad for both QBs, you saw the odds on favorite to win the MVP this year get visible frustrated, press, and ultimately fold. He was nowhere to be seen trying to work out what was happening, rallying his team, he simply pouted on the sideline as his team fell further behind.

The reigning MVP had literally no quit. Its one thing to say after the fact, that we had faith all along, its quite another for that to be true.

Down 24, think about that for a moment. 24. Mahomes is captured, in that moment on the sideline saying we have everything we want. Everyones already counted us the **** out, so go do something special.

Then, to walk the walk after talking the talk, leading the team to 7 straight touchdowns and 8 scoring drives, throwing 5 touchdown passes, and displaying a fiery emotion that if you dont feel anything when you see this kid going nuts after a huge play, call the coroner, because youre already dead.

The two qbs could not be further apart. Jackson cannot hold Mahomes jock when it comes to putting the team on his back.

Lamar should consider signing with KC as a running back. Its the only way barring injury to Mahomes, that hes ever getting a ring.

Mahomes is the MVP. Its not even close. Lamar is a running back executing the halfback pass play about 20-25 times a game.

Jacksons first two years have ended with dud playoff performances.

Mahomes first two years as a starter sees his team hosting back to back AFC title games for a frachise that in its entire history never hosted a single one before he arrived.

The Chiefs have MASSIVE defensive linemen. Granted, most teams dudes are big, but guys like Nnadi, Pennell and Jones are just monsters. And Clark's so damn long and has excellent strength to boot. Charlton/K-Pass are also physical specimens in their own right.

You don't necessarily need to be freak athletes or incredible technicians to stifle the Ravens, you just need to be really damn big and fairly patient.

There aren't a ton of teams that can do that.

Oh, and watching the Ravens try to do stuff w/ a 4-person DL while rotating OLBs into the line on occasion yesterday reminded me how much I ****ing HATE the 3-4. Hate hate hate hate it.

I am so glad we got rid of Sutton if for no other reason to have moved on from that abomination of a front. It just sets you up for the kind of depth problems that you saw from Baltimore last night.

The Chiefs and their powerful 4-man fronts are a kinda nasty matchup for Baltimore and it's just not something that every team out there can do.
Great post.

Er..didn't Lamar's teammates let him down less than 24 hours ago?
Honestly, Baltimore fans have been some of the most realistic/reasonable I've met. For the majority, they acknowledge Mahomes' superiority.

The couple that were here before the game acknowledged Mahomes' game but failed to admit there was anything lacking in Lamar's. In fact, one of them actually said if he were building a team, he'd take Lamar.

It feels like the sole purpose of pumping up Lamar Jackson is to keep the Mahomes extravaganza in check. Otherwise there would be nothing to talk about the new QB generation other than the greatness of Mahomes. Results wise there is no contest at all. One is a proven big game loser and the other is a champion of champions. I see the Lamar discussion as nothing more than filling air time until he wins games that matter.

That's twice in four games...Baltimore might be in for some rough sledding against competent teams.

I'm not sure if Washington qualifies for a competent team, but from what I have heard the front 7 is the strength of their team. This could be an interesting match up in the early time slot Sunday if Baltimore doesn't get out to an early lead.

Ravens just gave Humphrey $20M per year. Their LT is also getting a big number pretty soon. I don’t see them fixing their Front 4 pass rush anytime soon.

I am a huge Humphrey fan and try to remind people how good he is whenever I can.

But DAMN.

I mean...Wards almost certainly 1 and done at this point. They'll have him on the tender next year but I don't see any way you get a deal done with him for less than $15 mil/per if he has a healthy season this year or next.

He's not Humphrey but he's good. He's gonna be awfully tough to keep around w/ the CB market doing what it's doing.

And the Jones deal just keeps looking better and better. Humphrey was a non-factor on Monday - Jones absolutely tortured Jackson. How can those two be in the same financial ballpark?

KC seems to be doing a pretty incredible job of finding bargain guys who can play very well, both in the draft and veteran guys who were dumped by other teams. I think they will just have to continue down that path.

Meanwhile, I don't see the Ravens getting any dudes like the Bosa brothers without trading their way into the Top 5 of the draft. They sure as hell won't be able to buy any guys like that in free agency. Spending all their money on a bunch of other positions.

And make no mistake, if they want a real chance to beat the Chiefs (other than luck), they need a monster Front 4 pass rush. Period, end of story. And even then, you got a pretty good chance of losing because Mahomes is clutch as hell in the 4th quarter of tough games.

Yeah, when I first saw Humphrey's numbers I thought "man, that's an awful lot of money".

I guess you have to pay it but I'd much rather have more impact for that money.

I'm just of the opinion now that deals for elite players are just whatever. Unless he gets injured, more times than not they end up being bargains down the road.

The most likely way Ward stays at this point is if he takes a little bit of a discount and IF someone like Mathieu re-does his deal and takes less than he could get... similar to Mahomes, and Jones ... to keep Ward on the roster long-term.

I love the idea of Ward and Sneed running long-term on the outside. That would be a dynamic pairing.

Re: the Ravens finding a pass rush... they're either going to have to get really lucky on a guy, take a chance on a guy with issues and have them hit big (i.e. Justin Houston), or change their whole defensive scheme to find the type of rush they need against KC.

They HAVE to pay Stanley and Jackson, no way around it. Unless both take les-than-top-of-market deals, it's going to be hard to fix other holes on the team in FA.

I think Lamar is going to screw them, same as Deshaun did with the Texans. Everyone talks about Mahomes having an average of $45M per year, but it's heavily backloaded. He gets less than $40M per year for the first 5 years of the deal (after his 2-year rookie money is done). Watson basically got paid the same amount at $39M per year for this time period. If Lamar gets north of $40M per year for 5 years...well, they're screwed.
