NfL owners meeting this week. 18 game schedule

NFL owners meeting this week to discuss potential for 18-game regular season

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's campaign to add an 18th game to the regular-season schedule is reportedly set to gain momentum during next week's annual owners meetings.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, two NFL executives believe schedule expansion talks "will intensify" when the annual meeting talks place in Palm Beach, Florida from March 30 to April 2.

Those talks will be part of what is expected to be "more assertive efforts" from Goodell and team owners to talk schedule expansion this summer, according to Robinson.

The NFL has an option to opt out of many of its current broadcast deals after the 2029 season. The league could theoretically hope to get more money on a new deal if it can promise networks 18-game seasons after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in March 2031.

18 game seasons have always been the goal. They probably used the last few years to gage if fans would go for it, and of course, nobody can get enough of the NFL.

It's fine if they do it, but absolutely have two bye weeks for the players, and get rid of the practice squad. Everyone is active every week to give guys a freaking break in game and week to week.

Because 17 is an uneven number and that's dumb. Really 20 games makes the most sense.

Just realizing this will totally screw up my fantasy football league schedule. Right now it's perfect because everybody plays their division rivals twice and every other team once. One more game we'll have to double up a non-division game.

Seen the price of a ticket to a game now? A family of 4 for a NFL game is almost the price of a vacation.

Tyreek is going to die in an Arab prison if that happens. He probably violates 75 of their laws every day.

16 was perfect imo, and so was the playoff scenario.

I think the Monday off after the Super Bowl is a good idea, and even having the game on Saturday isn’t a terrible idea either. The dilemma with having the Super Bowl a week later means that it’s going head to head with the Daytona 500.

when every record gets broken and fans are all like "wow that was the best receiving/rushing/passing season ever" and they don't even mention that it took extra games to do it. I find that kind of annoying.

With the regular season OT still staying at 10 minutes, could the team with first possession drain the clock down as much as possible and score leaving little or even no time remaining for the other team to get a possession?

That’s more realistic to do with a 10 minute OT, than the 15 minute postseason OT.

Go on a 9-10 minute drive and eliminate the opportunity for the other team to get a possession.

Had this exact same thought. I don't think you can go into your offensive drive planning this, but if you're chipping away and getting yards in the run game and that clock gets chewed for awhile, I could definitely see going into this mode.

When some running back gets 2,000 yards in the first fourteen games, I'll vote to convict O.J. Simpson.
