I leave some, and pull some. It depends on where it is, if its safe from theft. Its probably best to Pull them, so they'll last longer, and you can take down a ladder stand in minutes and pack it out.
The hanging stands, you can chain them and forget them if you want. We've had some in trees for 5 years now. The biggest thing is that deer with get wise to trees with stands if you get busted. |

This is gonna be a GREAT year. Webster County has an "urban" season this year from 6-9 October. I get to gun does starting Oct 6th. We set up a video camera near our pond and 4 does have been visiting regularly. Not to mention 2 flocks of turkeys. Our back 20 is going to be a honey pot this year. I can't wait.

I had some seat cushions made....from 4" firm foam, and had a local seamstress make covers out of some water resistant camo cloth I bought....as well as some pillow covers for my man-room sofa.
They've got a couple of cloth straps on each side, I tie it to my hunting belt, carry it in and out. works great and I don't have to worry about critters tearing up seats. I have about $30 in 4 of them. |

Iowa take your pup with you all you can..get him used to you..use any wild-bird feathers in a old glove or sock pull it along the ground around things and then leave it..after you already have let him play with it..he'll soon start looking for it..always reward with pieces of dog biscuts when he does things right..if you have a way to make a flight cage.. at least 20 yards long by 5ft. high by 5ft. wide..put some pidgeons in there..hold him at the gate till you comand him to flush then let him go..he'll luv flushing them..ps you'll lose some birds..ha ha..then take him to the field start shooting your gun around him getting him used to the noise.. then shoot some pidgeons.. wounding if you can..get him to go find them..go with him at first..the wounded birds will flutter and that will get him used to mouthing them..start going just part way till you can just stay where you shot from and he'll bring them back to you..remember always carry treats with you to reward him..water retrives are just as important throw his feather toy tied to something that floats he'll go in after it and bring it back..if you have kids they can get him to bring things back while playing with him..after all as a pup he thinks all this training is play if you dont scream and hit him..the more time you put in the better the dog.. good luck....

Anybody whack anything yet? (Except dollar1 - got him a few minutes ago. Caught him daydreaming...)
Anyway, anybody been out? Set the duck blind out to hold a spot last night. We don't open until the 21st, which of course, I will be down at the game instead. Anybody?

The brother of my boss got a little doe this morning with his bow..
I thought he was going to shoot a load,he was so excited..his hunting prowess is laughable..whenever any of us see him coming out of the woods armed with a weapon,we hit the dirt..his eyesight is horrible too!! but he got something today!!! |
