*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Of course it's up for discussion. Lol

For instance: Was Rice really a better receiver than Randy Moss? Not a ****ing chance, but he was on a team full of Hall of Famers before the salary cap and free agency were things.

Ok, let’s slow down here. It took Jerry Rice til the age of 30 to hit 10,000 career receiving yards. He put up an additional 12,000 receiving yards AFTER that point. He had a 1,200 yard season at the age of 40. FORTY.

Like, mfs are talking about Kelce falling off a cliff and he’s 35. Imagine Kelce still playing 5 years from now and putting up a 1,000 yard season. It would be unbelievable.

Jerry Rice is one of those dudes who has the peak AND longevity arguments. He’s truly a GOAT of GOATs.

Yes Rice was better than Moss. What are you even saying?

Moss wouldn't block, wouldn't go over the middle. He was a great WR but he was also limited in what he would do.

What he did do, he was the best at. But Jerry did EVERYTHING at the highest level

Exactly. I can't believe these comments.

It's Brady - Rice - Brown. That's the three best ever.

Mahomes could overtake Brady with the threepeat and one more ring overall.

I think you have to give some love to defenders like Lawrence Taylor as well. He had eight 1st team All-Pros. That’s absurd. Pat’s insane and I think he’s only got like two.

LT also won an MVP while playing at the same time as Montana, Marino, Elway, Walter Payton, Eric Dickerson, Jerry Rice, etc.

Reggie White and Orlando Pace probably both deserve recognition as well.

I'm just saying, an argument can be made for Moss. Each of them had an insane 10-year stretch, one on a team full of HOFers pre-salary cap, and one catching passes from Daunte Culpepper.

Agreed, there are too many great players across too many eras to have a clear-cut top 3. For instance, Deacon Jones. He'd likely still hold the career sack record if sacks had been an official stat throughout his career.

One major issue with the GOAT discussion across eras.

The best players of all time are all very recent players. These freaks would dominate the old days.

So you basically have to compare the players against the era they played in. Which then essentially rewards players for their competition being worse.

It’s a lot like comparing Wilt Chamberlain to Shaq. Wilt averaged 7 more points and 12 more rebounds per game. Does anyone actually believe the discrepancy between the two is actually that large?

Exactly, and don't forget Wilt's 20 blocks per game, which had nothing to with the NBA being an 8 team league full of short white guys.

I wanted to include LT and I think you could make the case for it because he literally changed defenses from then on out.

Also, athletic ability in terms of speed, vertical jump, etc hasn't actually changed that much since then. The idea that guys today are freaks compared to Jim Brown or Rice just isn't true.

And even if it is, the fact is, the "freaks" don't always make the best football players.

Rice wasn’t all that long ago.

Jim Brown played in the 50’s. He might be a comparable athlete to today’s guys, but his competition wasn’t.

Next, you'll tell me that Bob Cousy wasn't as good as Magic Johnson!

Yeah, freaks from back then were probably on par with freaks from today. Issue is, the average athlete has gotten faaarrrr bigger, stronger and faster.

Wasn’t Refrigerator Perry considered massive? Google has him at 6’2” 335. That would be a relatively average guard these days.

I’ve wonder about Jim Brown playing today.. Jim ran a 4.5 40 in pads. But todays players are stronger and faster than the 50s players.. I think Jim would compare to Derrick Henry today..
