Let's Talk About the Eagles (Super Bowl 59 Discussion)

We're headed back to the Ship and will try to be the first team to 3-peat in Super Bowl history!!! Chiefs open up as 1.5 favorites over the Eagles.

Discuss.

Saquon capable of taking it to the house 80 yards at any moment. Gotta find a way to force the Eagles to drive the field instead of hitting the quick strike huge plays like that.

I hate to be reductive, but all the Chiefs do is play close games and keep games close all the way to the bitter end. We don't blow teams out, and we don't get blown out.

When you get teams that are this good I think the chances of a blowout on either side is like 10% while the chances of the game being decided by 7 points or less is the other 90%.
If Mahomes and Pacheco didn't give the ball away we were heading for a possible blowout. Up until then we had dominated the game.

It’s really something.

You can’t just ignore the big runs, but he’s far more human when he’s forced to work for it.

Against the Commanders: 15 for 118. Take away the 60 yarder and he had 14 for 58 (4.1 per)

Against the Rams: 26 for 205. Take away the 62 and 78 and he had 24 for 65 (2.7 per)

Obviously, there’s a lot of flaws with that. The possession would still continue if the big runs didn’t happen. He may well break another in its place. Etc etc.

But the point remains, you HAVE TO limit those big runs and make the Eagles surgically drive the field. Allow a 70 yard TD run and you take away Hurts’s ability to **** things up.

It might be, but Barkley is easily the best back they have had since maybe McCoy.

Or if Buffalo didn't have insanely good luck on turnover worthy plays, it's a blowout in favor of the Chiefs. 5 fumbles in the game. Buffalo recovered 100% of them, which is statistically a rare occurrence. Buffalo got away with 3-4 interception quality throws from Josh Allen as well.

The Buffalo fans & Chief haters out there refuse to operate with objectivity, but the Bills were lucky as hell the game was even close in the 4th quarter considering how much the ball had to bounce in favor of Buffalo...literally from the opening drive where Allen threw back to back interception quality balls and got away with them.

So you didn't actually watch the ****ing playoff game? They scored more than that under said conditions, and were a **** hair away from dropping 29.

Anybody that actually watched the game saw that they couldn't cover Puka Nacua and the only thing saving them was the conditions.

Gonna outline this again thanks to Duncan: this is by far the worst pass rush Mahomes has seen in a Super Bowl.

I don’t think people understand how bad it is for the Eagles so let me show you:

Total pressures:

Chiefs-171 (6th)
Eagles-111 (28th)

Pressure %:

Chiefs-26.1 (5th)~less than half a % from tying 3rd
Eagles-17.9% (28th)~over 1% less than 27th

Hurries:

Chiefs-59 (7th)
Eagles-29 (31st)

Hurry %:

Chiefs-9 % (6th)
Eagles-4.7% DEAD LAST

QB Knock Downs:

Chiefs-73 best in NFL
Eagles-41 (Tied for 24th)

QB Knock Down %:

Chiefs: 12.8% (2nd)
Eagles: 7.6% (22nd)

Blitzes:

Chiefs-207 (6th)
Eagles-118 (27th)

Blitz %:

Chiefs-31.6% (4th)
Eagles-19.1%(28th)

The Chiefs were top 5 in all these stats throughout the season and the only reason they weren’t overall on some of the now is bc we gave them the game off in Denver which lowered our stats. We didn’t blitz one time that game.

The Eagles defense does not blitz. And the number show what I think is true: they are largely dependent on Jalen Carter’s talent and everyone else is not that great.

I don't for a single god damn second believe the best QB is going to lose to a RB centric team, NFL history says that won't happen.

I was actually just thinking about that.

When was the last time an all time elite QB lost to an elite RB and average passing QB in the Super Bowl?

I can think of anything recent. Maybe the closest would be Manning and the Broncos losing to Marshaw Lynch and Wilson?

That was more about an all time Seattle defense though.

Yeah, that Eagles' pass D got LIT UP in that game. Combination of deep weapons + a good QB making good decisions and getting the ball out + good scheme and approach.

I'd take the Chiefs' OL, QB over the Rams, easily. Rams WR room is better, but the Chiefs have a variety of weapons.

I'm confident in saying that if the conditions are better, the Rams are in the Super Bowl, not the Eagles.

We'll see how it goes. Philly seemed to get plenty of pressure on the QB's in their 3 Playoff games. Jalen Carter lining up against Caliendo seems like a major problem. It's too bad the Chiefs were not able to find a solid Left Tackle, which would allow Thuney to be an All-Pro on the interior OL against a dude like Carter.

Wonder if this is the game they finally slide Thuney back inside. They've apparently been giving Humphries first team reps throughout the playoffs practices so they haven't completely abandoned that idea.
