Let’s talk about rd 2

Lot of good receivers left as well as corners.

Feeling good about it. What’s our big board look like?

Veach seems to have little tolerance for players with injury histories. More so than most GMs.

Few GMs would’ve parted ways with Houston, Berry, Ford, Schwartz, Fisher, and Watkins over 2 and a half years.

You could’ve said the same thing about Tyrann Mathieu before we signed him too. Shit happens. It’s football.

I totally understand being concerned about injuries, but I’m comfortable taking risks as well. Yea, Dickerson was a risk I wasn’t remotely comfortable taking at 31, and Marshall wouldn’t have been either, but at 58 or 63?

Then I say if they’re comfortable with it, swing for the fences.

Matthieu has really only missed significant time twice - once for an ACL and once for a shoulder. He also had a thumb injury IIRC.

It's not like he had the same injury over and over. I mean Marshall is one thing. His injuries are concerning but they're not chronic.

Dickerson on the other hand is an absolute non-starter. He had a season-ending ACL tear his freshman year, a season-ending surgery on his ankle his sophomore year, a medical redshirt his junior year due to another ankle injury and then tore his ACL again this past season. There's no way to justify drafting an interior offensive linemen with that many lower body injuries. It just wouldn't be a good idea at all.

They should take Weaver with one of the picks tonight.

Dickerson is the type of risk that is warranted in rd 3. That’s usually when those guys get drafted

Not sure I'd even take him in round 3. But I'm definitely not taking him in round 2.

He's a 3rd rounder at best. Most places have a 4th or 5th round grade on him.

Frank Gore had 2 ACL injuries in college playing RB and went on to have a long and healthy career. Again, I understand the concern completely, but I evaluate the prospect and trust the team and their doctors if they’re willing to take the risk. That doesn’t mean it’s going to work out, I get it.

I wouldn't have taken Frank Gore and of course, in that case, I would have been wrong.

But the number of Frank Gores that actually pan out are very very few. Guys with injury histories like Dickerson usually go on to be injured again.

When guys are young it’s just different IMO.

I thought Keenan Allen was a brokedick at one point. We all did. There are countless examples of guys like him and Mathieu in the league.

Hell, I would’ve thought Jason Verrett on a 1 year deal was a waste of time and money for the 49ers last year and it worked out great. If that ****ing guy can play 16 games anything can happen lol.

I get it though, some people are more willing to take risks than others. It’s all relative and situational.

I ****ing love Dickerson’s tape, so it’s easy to sell me even if it’s foolish.

Honestly I've just become less and less tolerant of it over time. Seeing guys that we need, like Ford and Watkins, being out all the time just got me to the point where I don't trust that these guys will be able to play. It's more my own gut feeling than anything objective. I'm just sick of relying on guys that don't ever seem to be available when we need them most.

Let’s talk about rd 2

OC Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma: In my mind, Humphrey is the best center left on the board. The Chiefs could select him and have him compete against six-year veteran Austin Blythe for the starting role. If Blythe wins the job in training camp, Humphrey can develop behind the scenes before taking over that spot on the offensive line in 2022.

LB Nick Bolton, Missouri: The Chiefs need another athletic linebacker, and Bolton would add more sideline-to-sideline speed for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. Last season, Bolton led the Tigers with 95 tackles, 15 pass breakups and two interceptions. He is perhaps the most well-rounded linebacker left on the board.

CB Asante Samuel Jr., Florida State: One of the smoothest cornerbacks in the draft, Samuel, whose father played in the league, could have a smooth transition into the Chiefs’ defense. The Chiefs love mixing their coverages, and Samuel is talented enough to be effective in press, man-to-man coverage or in zone. He can also be a starter on the perimeter or as the nickel.

DE Carlos Basham, Wake Forest: If Odeyingbo is off the board, then the Chiefs can turn their attention to Basham, the seventh-ranked defensive end. In his last 20 college games, Basham recorded 16 sacks. Basham’s talent and production should make him a better selection than Breeland Speaks and Tanoh Kpassagnon, two former second-round picks for the Chiefs who never became consistent contributors.
Got half of them.
