Chiefs Andy Reid on Mike & Mike: "Alex is our quarterback by the way" - Page 28

Don't want to read too much into the conversation but just watched Andy on M&M this morning and he made it clear that Alex was the QB. Mentioned that he could still play, was at the Pro Bowl (

), and can do all the things he wants his guy to do.

In essence, we can put any talk of Tony Romo, Nick Foles, or any other retread to bed. But, they did talk about college system QBs briefly (no one specific), and he said that as long as they feel like a guy can learn, it is their job to transition a college system QB and that it doesn't effect their decision on which type to take.

So, will we draft a QB? Idk, my bet is on yes since Foles is apparently gone.

Alex Smith had success handing the ball off to Frank Gore and throwing it in Vernon Davis general direction in San Francisco.

Even when JC was healthy we sputtered on offense with Alex Smith because Andy wants passes not a running game.

Alex is only going get worse because his arm is not going stay in his shoulder socket and when he takes another hit to the head his next concussion is going be a doozy.

I hope we have a draft pick QBotf to take his place when it happens and not another retread like Foles still on the team he can go away too.

Yet Smith scored more rushing TDs on less attempts this year and where he didn't produce in rush yards he replaced a lot of it with passing yards (203 ypg -> 224 ypg). I'm all in favor of this change by Reid to protect the QB.

What's unfortunate is we didn't have Maclin during the time we had Charles instead had lazy ass bowe. And in the playoffs last year we played New England without both Maclin and Ware.

This team is cursed with injuries to key players in the playoffs. I just don't get it. It sucks.

I think it plays out like this...
We spend a 3rd round pick or later this year to find a diamond in the rough and groom him behind Smith. If he doesn't show promise, 2018 we spend a 1st round pick.

Every power house AFC team is or has crumbled around us including SD, Denver, Pitt, Buffalo. Tom Brady will be 40 and they have some big free agents they need to retain.

Dorsey has set us up very well for the next few seasons.

It sure the ****ing didn't look that way. I stand corrected about how much they ran but it didn't seem like it, but I mostly remember the draw play that absolutely drives me nuts when you don't get to the los it's a ****ing worthless play. Also Andy Reid loves the pass and even has said so when he got here he could do without the run game. That's his coaching philosophy pass pass pass he said so.

I agree he loves the pass and since coming to KC he's adapted more to balanced play calling. But I think his hand was forced this year to pass more since our RBs/OL couldn't establish an efficient ground game.

Id bet my lifesavings that you would do the job of a plumber a lot better than trying to play QB in the NFL. I think that's the point he's trying to make. Although I don't necessarily agree that you have had to play the game before in order to offer on point criticism.

There's no question the Chiefs running game was less efficient on a yards per carry basis, but total production was up.

The biggest decline was Smith's own rushing yards.

In any case you are splitting hairs.

The Chiefs had the #1 rushing attack by DVOA in 2015. They also had the #2 defense by DVOA that year.

So when the Chiefs running game AND defense was apparently up to your lofty standards in 2015, Alex still couldn't get close to the Super Bowl.

And he never will.

Except Smith gave us a chance against NE despite Houston, Ware, Maclin, and Charles providing nothing to that game. But yea, it's still his fault cause he's the QB. Ignorant fool.
