Absolutely. Once the Raiders gave Jones his $32 million a year, the market would have been set and Wilkins would have still gotten around what he did, so if we went after him it would been a horse apiece money wise.

I was a little worried that Veach caved and paid so much, but as the chips keep falling it's pretty clear why he did it. There was literally no other choice.

yeah Veach must have known where the market was heading today. Seeing Jones in a Raiders because we wanted to save $2-$3 million on an inferior DT would have sucked big time.

I thought I read where Clark Hunt stepped in and said to just get the deal done. Does anyone know what really happened here? Did Veach bend and give the deal to Jones, or was it only because Clark stepped in, or part of both?

Market rate. Crazy? Probably not as crazy as the $20MM+ some of the offensive guards are getting.

Wilkins with Crosby and Koonce is a pretty phenomenal DL. If Wilson continues his improvement playing inside, that's a dominant DL.

Honestly, Jones would have been crazy not to take the deal, or even one more like what Wilkins received.

Yep, with that big increase in cap, it's like inflation, everything goes up. You are seeing that particularly the Guard signings today.
