It's a good point.

The benefit of that rookie QB contract was real and it is for every team. It catches up to everyone who eventually pays their QB.

And if you're gonna have an elite defense, well, the opportunity cost is gonna show up somewhere on the roster.

Do you have any idea how ridiculous it would look to other fanbases to be crying like this about the best QB ever (during a 9-0 season coming off B2B SBs) because he missed a throw or two?

If Mahomes ever gets hurt again to the point he has to miss games (which unfortunately may happen with a turnstile like Kingsley at LT), I think some may be in for a rude awakening about how much he actually does out there and how much better even a subpar Mahomes is than practically every other QB in the sport.

You can split the blame up however you want, but the eye test says Mahomes' just isn't playing up to his standard. Like this should be the first year of his career he doesn't earn a Pro Bowl bid, and I'll almost be upset if he does, because it just is not deserved.

That said, just like last year, I expect his best when we need it most. And maybe that's part of the issue. This team is in a constant state of wanting to get on with the postseason already.

EDIT: Just saw your 9:35am post.... yep.
Probably the cumulative effect of substandard OT play. Go back and watch some of those games in 2021 when we had Brown and Wylie. Mahomes was getting lit the **** up and playing his worst ball at points there too.

Titans game in particular. Holy ****, the OL surrendered 30 pressures and 5 sacks, and the Chiefs only scored 3 points all game.

I'm sorry but I'm old enough to remember us laughing at the John Elway "4th Quarter Comeback" stats that were all made necessary by him being lousy for 3 quarters.

Points count the same no matter when they're scored fellas.

Lets play better in the first 3 quarters so that we don't have to demand excellence in the 4th. Because I'm gonna go ahead and guess your little Mike Greenberg post there was from BEFORE last weekend. Patrick most assuredly did not save the day in the 4th on Sunday.

He'll get that '4th quarter comeback' stat but if they'd have not blocked that kick, Patrick would've been the biggest single culprit in that loss. And he's definitely not the biggest single reason why they won.

It's why 3-peat's don't happen.

The Disease of More.

It's already cost us a guy who's probably gonna end up in the Hall of Fame. We're fortunate that Kelce plays a position that's largely undervalued or it might have cost us another (not Kelce, but potentially Jones due to the money Kelce could've commanded).

It's damn hard to keep great teams together. And sooner or later this team's gonna decline. The odds of another HoF pass catcher walking through that door are pretty low as Kelce declines. Or as Jones declines, the odds of us getting another interior lineman that can destroy creation like he can aren't great.

It's just the nature of the beast. We're in rare times.

I'm fine acknowledging that while also saying that our QB isn't playing up to what we know he's capable of.

But it shows his clutch gene. He has it. Mahomes has almost always played this way. We have never blown teams out, but when we absolutely need a play he almost always pulls it out.

The thing you have to remember is that for every team we play, we are their Superbowl. We are the game everyone has circled. They will always bring their A game. Our team isn't going to play A+ every week. Including mahomes.

He’s 6th on the season overall in QBR and by far the best when it is winning time in the 4th quarter. In doing so, he’s now led the team to 15 consecutive wins. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with his performance overall.

And if you’re telling me that there is a single QB in this league that you’d rather have when it actually matters, you’re lying to us.

Has ANYONE said that?

Nobody - precisely nobody - wants Mahomes traded or benched. Not seriously anyway (we have some gameday thread people that lose their shit and others that are tongue in cheek)

But ain't anybody here that wants Mahomes traded for Jackson or Allen or Burrow or Herbert or anyone else.

They just want to know why he's not playing at the same level he was playing at over the last season+. And I get it, you're super eager to make excuses for him.

But he's had personnel and problems around him very very similar to this in the past and was a damn monster in spite of it. 2022 PM is what this PM should be able to do.

And he's not.

The question is simply 'why?'

Fact is, the offence hasn’t actually been bad this year either (at least when their LT is not getting absolutely destroyed all game). It is slower and more methodical but still quite efficient.

Are we really giving the responsibility for that to Kareem Hunt (a RB averaging 3.5 yards a carry) or is it possible that maybe, just maybe the best QB ever is making the right plays when he has to?

Someone mentioned the other day how Andy isn't the type to keep going back to the same well, like how other QBs will keep abusing a weakness over and over and run up the score on teams.

The Chiefs seemed to do it week 1 and just abused the Ravens' linebackers with those Rice slants and so forth, which was one of Mahomes' better games, but often we see Kelce make a catch and then he's on the sideline the next play... and the same happened with Hopkins. And they often get away from doing certain things (and of course defenses adjust, too)..

I just wonder if all that plays into what we see... yeah, he still needs to make that throw to Kelce. But, could be why they seem so locked in during the 4th quarter of games and the postseason, too.
