Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I would think it would work well for fishing. Years ago, I used dynamite for fishing, called it the DuPont Lure.

Beating someone to death with a live grenade is something Guy Ritchie or Tarintino need to add to their repertoire simply because of the misuse and brutality of the act.

I'm sorry, carry on.

Next adventure-
Drove out east about 45 miles to my FFL dealer to pick up the sig P220 45 Nightmare today. She's a beaut. While there I saw a gun I had heard about but never really thought about too much. Canik TP9SFx- 9mm. I wanted something with a longer barrel to do some 10 -20 yard pistol training. Figured what the heck for $550 bucks and could add it this Background check. The thing is comparably to a glock build wise and came with two 18 round mags. Also bought 100 rounds of 9mm for 40 bucks. They were limiting it to 2 boxes.

Came home and 1000 rounds of 45 acp were in my office. Fed Ex came on Saturday. Woot Woot

Will have a drink or two and do some gun cleaning this evening. Yes I have already 2x checked - they are all empty.......
Canik makes a good gun. Know several pros that use them. A couple years ago one could be had for $299+tax; knew I should've picked one up back then.

Taking it to the indoor range in the AM. Will give it a "shot".
I have a half dozen self defense "shorties" that are crap past 10 yards. I really want to hone the craft at 20 plus. The 40 cal I shot today did ok, but at 15 yards I was on target ( 6") but it looked like someone was aiming with a bum eye. I have two 1911 45's that are great at 15 to 20 yards. 20 yards plus it gets a tad iffy.
Looking forward to a 9 with a competition set up. Easy load to shoot.

That's weird......my 45's (1911s and P220) are my most accurate pistols - hell, maybe it's just me since I have been shooting 1911s since I was 19 (74 now). My Springfield 1911 (military) is the best shooter I have had....I can safely shoot it up to (and above) 50-75 yards and hit paper well...

I think I'm all ammo'd up now, but I'm leery of going to shoot it all away at the range, lol. Every now and again a decent deal for ammo will pop up, but you have to be quick on the trigger to nab it (no pun intended).

I'm also maybe interested in upgrading my two pistols, but same as with the ammo, I'm hesitant to try and shop for better deals in the current climate. I have a Berretta PX4 Storm full size and an SCCY .380 sub, and I think I'd like to have a Springfield and/or H&K.

I would not carry a .380. They just don't have enough stopping power. If you're looking to upgrade, I'd ditch that and get a Sig P365 9mm. It's a bit bigger, but the difference is negligible. I personally carry a P365 XL that has a bit longer barrel, and it's awesome. The P365 takes a 10 round mag; the XL takes a 12. If you can find one, it would probably be in the $500-$600 range.

You really can't go wrong with a Sig.

That is impressive. Mostly operator error on my part I am sure on the 1911. I do better with the 1911 than the P220 and getting better with both. My goal is hitting target at 50 yard consistently. Figuring this Canik should help.

Well, you have to take into consideration that the .45 was as near and dear to me as was my M16 - all through Viet Nam and after I became a CI Officer, I carried the .45 throughout Europe - unit the damned DoD took them away from us. As soon as I retired, I bought another .45 (the one I had in Viet Nam hangs on my wall in a case never to be fired again, and it shows its' years).

Through the years I haven made it a habit to fire both the 1911 and the P220 on a regular basis. (1) I love the feel of the .45 recoil and (2) At my age if I don't keep current on my practice, I'm liable to lose my ability. Can't have that now! I WILL admit, however, that I find it incredibly hard to EDC the 1911 OR the P220. Just too damned heavy for me. My pistol of choice for EDC is the P365. LOVE that little fella!!

First thing I recall with the .45 is that it is usually hard to prepare for the recoil - until you get used to it. Hell, after a while, I have completely forgotten about it. Today? The 9mm seems like a toy to me.....

Indeed. My Wife was carrying a PPK for the longest time and she loved it. I made the mistake one afternoon in Wyoming of letting her give the 365 a trial.

Bought another one for her about a week later.................Now, The PPK resides in her car (hidden).

My son carries one and swears by it. I don't know, but I truly believe that a .380 (before the micro 9's came out) was plenty good enough to EDC. Hell, with the right ammo, it will take down pretty much anything. However typical FMJ (ball) just doesn't cut it.

In other news.
I shot the Remington model 81 in 300 Savage I bought a couple weeks back
Shot it 8 times in row. 4 more times in a row than my shoulder wanted. The 1905 Browning long action is anything but a pleasure to shoot. But it's a beautifully built piece of American history. Very happy with my purchase.
