Peyton “looked real good” throwing to new Broncos teammates

Peyton “looked real good” throwing to new Broncos teammates
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 26, 2012, 3:53 PM EDT

As he settles in with the Broncos, Peyton Manning is learning the rules of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, including that he can work out with teammates, but only away from the team’s facilities and outside the watchful eyes of the coaches. And that’s exactly what Manning did today.

Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post reports that Manning took snaps from center J.D. Walton and threw passes to wide receiver Eric Decker and tight end Julius Thomas during a session at a Denver-area high school, and afterward Decker said he liked what he saw.

“He looked real good, though he probably won’t admit that he’s feeling good or feeling back to the way he wants to be,” Decker said.

Decker said Manning is trying to get comfortable with his new teammates now, and that the players who were on the roster last year are talking to him about the offensive concepts the Broncos employed — even though the offense will be quite a bit different with Manning running it in 2012.

“Just some drill work, talking through stuff, so he gets familiar with the verbage and the calls,” Decker said. “The biggest thing is he wanted to get a feel for us, and a feel for being under center.”

The Denver Post published 23 photos from today’s session. To the extent that you can tell anything from a still photo of a guy throwing a pass in sweats and a T-shirt, Manning looks pretty much like he has always looked.

--------------------------------------------

He looks pretty thin to me...not that I've looked at any comparison pictures.

If we have to. We're gonna bring back the old days of pounding the rock all day and playing stout defense. All that slingin the ball around the yard all day is great for the arena league.

What he "could" do isn't the issue. The issue is the stupidity of trying to equate Manning's situation to those of Moeaki, Charles and Berry.

All 4 of them sustained injuries that could mean they will never be the player they used to be. All 4 of them could come back and play at the high level to which they are accustomed. Nobody, including the players and trainers, will know how it turns out until the season begins to unfold.

Definitely. In addition to his injuries age and not having played for a year are Peyton's enemies

That's a piss poor analogy. Two totally different injuries and Brady wasn't 36. He was 29; and he was coming back to the exact same team.

If the Indianapolis organization would have believed him to be as capable as ever after sitting out for a year, they would have kept him. They knew his situation better than anyone and chose to let him go and start over from scratch. You don't do that when you have a quarterback that's still one of the best in the game. So it's reasonable to think that Manning will come back as a shadow of his former self like Namath did with the Rams.

As far as nerve damage healing, the only one who really knows is Manning. He's the type of player who would never admit that he's not 100% unless medical science could prove it. He'll go down flailing the ball like a 4 year old girl before he ever admits he's not the player he once was.

If he returns to form, fine. But the chances that he capable of taking an otherwise bad team to the Superbowl are slim at best.

Welp, season's over.

Quote:
Eric Decker squared off against the one and only Champ Bailey, giving fans the perfect early setup: Hall of Fame quarterback vs. Hall of Fame cornerback, with the former’s favorite target in between.

The setup didn’t disappoint. Decker ran deep down the right sideline, getting a step on Bailey as Manning threw for the end zone. The two connected for the touchdown right in front of the fans, who went absolutely wild.
