I never have backed out but several times, I have wished I had...
63 Pontiac Catalina 421 2+2 is my Papa John's car. Not mine but the exact same car. I am sure there are some who have never seen one of these.

Imbalanced or frictional tires and brakes can induce a bit of vibrational energy into the drivetrain without being an immediate concern. But if the ball joints are loosening, this allows that vibrational energy to form a feedback loop until it's noticeable and distracting. Further, that loosening of ball joints is a greater danger of loss of vehicle control than a stuck caliper or an imbalanced tire. The vibrations may CAUSE the shimmy, but if the vibrations are noteable enough to track down and diagnose, it's important to figure out if the ball joints are failing. Think of it like loose lug nuts. Much like tightened lug nuts assure that your wheel stays on your car as you turn and corner, a tire or brake can have a small imbalance that proper ball joints [as part of a properly maintained drive train] can absorb before you notice them. But if your lug nuts/ball joints are loose, the vibrations/turning can be catastrophic in short order. Last edited by Baby Lee; 01-23-2018 at 07:09 AM.. |

I'll try to wrap my mind around "drive train" comment.

Coffee is not going to help you understand drive trains.

Dartgod.
Why don't you explain how a "ball joint" is part of a "drive train" of an automobile?

GloryHolZ,
Why don't you take take the challenge too? Explain it to me. Just how would a "ball joint" be considered a part of the "drive train" of a car?

This ****ing place. You can say correct thing after correct thing. But if you're too precise in your language people avoid the subject by bitching about you being pedantic. And if you're too colloquial in your language, people avoid the subject by being pedantic themselves. I called it the drivetrain because it was a succinct term for the vehicle guidance control and dampening subsystem, that most reasonable people would recognize as referring to what I was in fact referring to. But you had to be butthurt about the slightest of contradiction. |
