I’m imagining a tank job like in that movie “Major League”. Perhaps, we get a life size cutout of Elway to put in the locker room and for every win, we punish them by removing a piece of his clothing? Seems like a plan to go perpetually 2-14.

For what it's worth, #Broncos were professional w/ media amid tough year.

One notable exception is RG Ron Leary, who repeatedly refused to talk w/ The Denver Post in 2019, even during end-of-season media day. He made $8.15m in salary but never could find time to be accountable.

The Kansas City Chiefs took the first quarter off against the Houston Texans on Sunday, and still dropped 51 points over the last 40 minutes. Point of reference: It took the Broncos the first four weeks of the regular season to score 51.

There were likely other, internal issues at play that cost Rich Scangarello his job after one season as Denver’s offensive coordinator, but the obvious still applies: The AFC West — and the AFC now as a whole — goes through Patrick Mahomes’ house, and this is not a beast that can be reasoned with. Or tamed.

If you can’t beat ‘em, it’s because you can’t outscore ‘em.

With about two minutes left in a historic comeback/rout/anomaly against the Texans in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, an announcement went up on the scoreboard at Arrowhead Stadium to apologize because the Chiefs had scored so much, so quickly, that the celebratory fireworks that normally accompany each touchdown had been used up.

Only once since Week 1 of 2018 has a team held Kansas City under 25 points. In two meetings with Denver last fall, the Chiefs brought a bunch of Roman candles and dragon eggs to the party. The Broncos had sparklers.

There are two clear paths for general manager John Elway this winter, at least where Mahomes and the Chiefs are concerned: Either you build a defense that rivals the 2000 Ravens as quickly and cap-friendly as possible, or you surround Lock with enough weapons — quality depth along the offensive line, game-breakers in the Tyreek Hill mode — and enough mentors that allow a young gunslinger half a chance when the pace picks up.
