Dane has given all sorts of reasons why the future of Star Wars and Disney properties are in dire peril based on The Last Jedi box office results.

Almost all of my postings within this thread revolve around why I liked the movie, and why I think some of the main criticisms of the movie miss the mark (i.e. Leia surviving in the vacuum of space, Snoke's seemingly meaningless death, Luke supposedly being a bitch, etc. etc.)

Those are two different topics. But mostly, his responses to my posts are, as I've said... "I don't know nuthin', I'm not in the business, etc. etc. As if I need to be "in the business" to speak on my own opinion of the movie.

Blindness? Hilarious. You are the one who is blinded to the fact that several posters now have commented on the fact that those who like the movie are shouted down. I myself stopped posting, because it really wasn't worth it. Until I saw Red getting the same treatment. Those of you who enter into these threads for nothing more than to pick a fight... I'll never understand it. This should be a great place to talk about the movie... what you hated, why I disagree... what I liked, why you disagree...

Or even... why you think the SW universe is dead because of TLJ, why I disagree, etc. etc.

Instead it's "you're dumb, you know nuthin', you're not in hollywood, you lack imagination". Please show me where I've posted similar attacks to those I disagree with here... I'll wait.

You can go ahead and leave me the **** out of this. I asked a few honest questions. Got attacked. Went back and read through the thread. Began to understand what I'd missed. And decided to leave the discussion alone.

Since then, I've stayed away from this particular topic and only spoken about how much I enjoyed the film and appreciate Rian's candor.

Both sides are pretty on edge at this point, it's pointless to argue that one side is more defensive than the other.

The only difference is that in this case, TLJ received MORE of the profits. Getting 65% of the revenue is HUGE.

Dane has no point here. It's bullshit.
I was actually agreeing with you that Star Wars gets a bigger piece of the pie. But the deals are different. And the opening week ask was more than 75% (which is why Star Wars is one of the few franchises that costs more to see opening weekend).

You. Have. No. Point.
This isn’t right. The breakdown domestically includes the producer/theater chain as well as distribution fees. Most studios have their own output deals but if you go thru a third-party you’ll be paying a set amount not only for the P&A money but also to “rent” their distribution system.

Blumhouse movies are a good example of this kind of deal.

And it is different from movie to movie and deal to deal.

Oh yeah. I'm sure there are TONS of movies getting more than 65% of the box office!

etched in my memory because of James Cameron's 1998 Titanic blockbuster hysteria. All major networks did fluff pieces about the global take and families continued viewing for months .

My mentioning of you was because you were an apt example. If you have a problem with it, take it up with Temper, who's so foolishly intent on willfully ignoring the obvious that I had to cite to an example.

Just a numbers update.

In 5 of its last 6 weekdays, the movie has pulled in less than $1m. The only exception was Friday, is sort of a hybrid day, and pulled in $1.6m.

By way of contrast, TFA didn't have its first sub-$1m day until February.

I think the main "problem" here has been poor communication. I'm not going to re-hash all of it but it's pretty clear to me that people have been talking past each other a good deal and not listening to what others are trying to express. On both sides.

That's just the way the internet in general and Chiefs Planet specifically works these days. Moving forward, I'm not really interested in discussing the impact TLJ has on Dinsey/Lucas film. I will be interested in watching that play out. And I appreciate all info/updates where that's concerned. But I'm not going to discuss it myself. I'll leave that to others.

I'll still chime in from time to time to talk about the film itself, though. Because that's the conversation I'm interested in right now. I look forward to reading through the thread and seeing what others say on all sides, however. Hopefully, it remains civil. Either way, I hope I continue to learn new things.
