Disney doesn't receive 100% of the box office profits for this film. They receive 65% Domestically, which puts their take at around $377 million, which doesn't cover the cost of the film and marketing. Overseas territories vary widely and as I mentioned earlier, the exhibitors (Theater Chains) receive a larger percentage of the box office after 4 weeks. This is all without mentioning the backlash, divisive nature of the film or the Star Wars galaxy moving forward. |

I'm not ignoring Dane's points about the box office, and I don't even mind deferring to his apparent insider knowledge. I don't think that precludes me from offering up possible other reasons the movie didn't match that of TFA. And I don't recall ever attacking Dane for his more informed opinion. Furthermore, if the Star Wars universe implodes under the supposed horrible sins that were committed in TLJ, I would be disappointed, as I do enjoy them. But I'm not going to crucify Johnson for it. I thought he made a really terrific movie and I disagree with most of the criticism, for the reasons I've stated, that it receives.

My 10 year old would totally love that Star Wars day at sea.

People who think this movie and its somewhat disappointing results or reception spell doom for the Star Wars universe are just being severely melodramatic. If it survived the Prequels, it will survive these movies too. You don't really seem impartial on this issue as you are dead set on your message of disaster and ruin for all things Star Wars. And you are on here shouting down anyone who doubts you like you are all knowing because you're in the business. If being in the business made people all knowing, we wouldn't even be having these discussions would we? If the next movie is good and people like it, it will rebound just fine. The Star Wars universe and legacy is far more resilient and ingrained in our culture than you seem to think. And this movie is still the highest grossing movie of 2017 and the 9th highest grossing movie ever in the history of movies, and it is still in theaters so it will still gross more than it has so far. I get all the arguments you want to make about how despite those facts it is still a complete and utter disaster of epic proportions (and how you know so better than everyone else here), but if Disney can't figure out how to make money off a movie with those numbers, they are total morons. And there is still a great chance that Episode 9 will do better than this one. Given the bad word of mouth on this movie from pissed off nerds and internet trolls, it could really be viewed as a success that it has done as well as it has. If fan reactions to Episode 9 are better, it has plenty of room to surpass this one and likely would. |

But despite that, everything was A-OK NUMBER ONE USDA CHOICE after Rogue One came out. No predictions of doom. And it had the SAME production budget as TLJ. Now a movie is going to make over $1.3 billion dollars (and counting) and you're acting like Lucasfilm is going to fire half the company. You are a giant contradiction. It's comically over the top.

In the other two trilogies, the first one had the biggest box office, the second had the least, and the third one finished between the first two. |

Disney's Star Wars will be fine BUT come on... Disney has got to be sorta let down by their box office intact this time around. The Last Jedi was supposed to make tons more money than it did.
I am happy that a lot of the folks on here liked this film. Glad you had a good time at the cinema . but some of us ****ing hated this crappy film haha. Let us seethe please . Oh and Disney will most certainly be okay because they bought out 20th Century Fox. Avatar 2 will be HUGE. |

I paid twice to see it’s because I purchased both sets of tickets well more than 2 months in advance. You know less about filmmaking and the box office than you do NFL personnel (which is complete joke in and of itself) which would funny if it wasn’t so true. The production and marketing budget was FAR LESS for Rogue One as compared to TLJ. You’re clueless. Completely clueless. |

Why the **** do you people think you know what goes on in Hollywood? Like there was no fallout after Justice League failed to live up to expectations? |

According to wikipedia, they had identical production budgets of $200 million. Unless you have a source that says the marketing for TLJ was some disgusting number in HUGE excess of Rogue One, it has been by far a more successful film financially.
