I'm going to fire up Netflix, load up Rogue One, and fast forward to the scene where the rebel fleet drops out of hyperspace.
Perfect summation.

And what I don’t get are the people defending this movie, as if *I*, the guy that started the thread, added updates for two years and wanted nothing more than for this to be the best Star Wars film, ever, are upset that I didn’t like the movie.

And Bowser, remember the morning of Star Wars Celebration like in April last year? I got up extra to early to watch it on my family room TV via YouTube and you and I were FB chatting?

Could we have been more excited about this film?

I was the same. In fact this was the most excited I've been to watch a SW's film since I was a little kid and ROTJ came out (the only one I was old enough to watch in theaters.) I was excited to see Luke take on Vader as a badass and I was excited to see Luke complete the circle and pass on the torch.

I fully expected the Snoke/Ray back stories to be explained to help flesh out ep 7 a little more. Perhaps a twist here and there.

Instead it felt like "We don't care what you want here's what you'll get from here on out."

If it were just a bad movie I wouldn't be so pissed. People make bad movies all the time. The problem is that Disney does this with every property they consume. They've done it with Marvel, ESPN, and now SW's.

They piss on what people love about the property, they then interject politics, and when you don't like it the narrative is that you are the problem. To me this would be the same as giving Kirk Cameron SW's and suddenly the force is full of over the top Christian messaging. No one wants to see that shit either...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I agree with everything but your last paragraph. The ****ing failure of TLJ has nothing to do with politics. It's just a ****ING AWFUL MOVIE that has NO ****ING consistency with Star Wars mythology, and on top of that it takes a big fat, steaming, shit on the beloved Original Trilogy. Then on top of that, it wiped out the promise TFA had by hand-waving shit.

I've watched the same exact thing happen in the comics. LITERALLY destroying the past so it's not there to posit an argument to the bold new future. I know you don't care about comics I'm just pointing out the same strategy used there. And it wasn't just a trial balloon or finger in the air to test how the wind's blowing - they took a loss FOR YEARS trying to push it.

And I'm not going to rehash my opinions on the politics but take my previous posts and combine them with the fact this film pissed all over the previous film.

TLJ basically said "**** what the previous creators or those that have to follow me think we're doing this and I don't care what problems it creates after this."

If the politics and dismissal of what was built in the previous film wasn't enough TLJ isn't even consistent with its message. Poe goes on a suicide run and is chastised for costing other lives just so he can be a hero. Early in the film I was impressed and thought "Wow. Pointing out the flaws in this trope makes sense."

Then Purple-haired-feminist does the exact same thing. Costs lives and then goes on a suicide run to be the hero. After that Asian Shrek does the exact same thing for an even MORE selfish reason - she loves Fin.

Later on this movie again earned points by having Ray say that the force is basically being able to move/float rocks. I did laugh. Only to have them ruin the point of that exchange later by Ray's most impressive moment in the film being - floating rocks.

**** this movie.

All this is 100% spot on.

I'm not going to preach what anyone else should do but I'm out here. If they make a Kenobi film I'll see what the reaction is and if it's mostly positive I'll watch it on Netflix/Amazon...

Yep, I remember, and no we couldn't have. We were all so innocent back then, lol.

I am now genuinely curious what JJ does with IX now. Will he right the ship and give SW fans what the want (and it could be debated if SW fans REALLY know what they want), or if he goes the safe route and gives us faux-RotJ in an attempt for Disney to mend fences after the backlash of TLJ. Feels like a possible lose-lose scenario brewing for all of us. Hopefully not.

I hear ya. I don't know what Gareth Edwards has on his plate right now, but after Rogue One I feel like he deserved a shot at IX (and I say that knowing it wasn't totally all him with R1) based on nothing more than how fans reacted after seeing R1. It's funny how nothing was expected from R1 and everything was expected from TLJ and how the two movies ended up in the public opinion.

Hope for the best, expect the worst. It's a shame that Star Wars is becoming that.

I know (KNOW) both directors had to fit a vision. They did the best they could.

Edwards printed money on Godzilla (****ing Godzilla!) and was smart enough to parlay that somewhere else.

I really didn't care how the rebels got the plans so I still haven't watched that. I don't care how they got the plans.

I don't buy "because you love this."

Using Box Office Mojo for the data

$1.74m on Wed
$1.68m on Thur
$2.72m on Fri

There's no saving bump coming for this movie.

Domestic:
$937m for TFA
$583m for TLJ, to date

Foreign:
$1,131,561,399 for TFA
$655,000,000 for TLJ, to date

A $700m+ drop is possible. To put that in perspective, that would be bigger than the domestic box of all but 2 movies (TFA, Avatar), ever. It would be ahead of the current #3 all time, which is Titanic, at $659m. Now, we have to take into account the reality of the changing foreign market. Even so, that's astounding to me.

It's the FEEL of Rogue One that makes it so good - Edwards nails, just absolutely nails, the feel of the OT - and not the story itself. We know the rebels get the plans, so why tell us about it? Because it's goddamned awesome, that's why. He takes a story in the SW universe that does not feature a Skywalker or a princess or a smart ass or a Wookie or a Jedi and makes it just ****ing work in the way you remember episodes IV-VI.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you haven't seen this yet. If you haven't, go fire up Netflix right the hell now and watch it. Then I dare you to come back here and say how unimpressed you were with it.

You haven't seen Rogue One? How is that even possible?

Best Trilogy Ever: Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back.

Rogue One has superior direction, action scenes, dialog and special effects to any other Star Wars film AND the story is phenomenal. The score is badass, too. I didn't like it at first but as I watched the film over and over again, I realized that Giacchino really nailed the themes and motifs for certain characters and planets.

The last 5 minutes are so ****ing legendary.

Rogue One kicks wholesale ass.

It confirmed my belief that the standalones had more potential and justified Disney's purchase of the franchise.
