Iirc, there's several flyshops in that area; just walk in and start a conversation. Plan to buy a half dozen or so flies to loosen their tongues a little. You can also take a look at either Fishbrain.com or troutroutes.com. Should be some good info in there. For that area though, you're usually talking mayflies and caddis imitations. just got to get the sizes right for the time of year.

I'm heading up to Glacier for a week on Wednesday. We have a cabin near Pinnacle, Montana 500 feet from the Middle Fork of the Flathead and wee a float trip planned for Sunday. Taking my 3 wt and plan to fish my way through a good number of trails the other days.
Last week I trekked a few miles up Cottonwood Pass west of Buena Vista and stalked brookies and cutties for a couple days. My last day I went solo and spent most my time sifting through game trails and up some side channels to chase some of the bigger spookier guys in the pass. Here's a couple Youtube videos...one setting up my approach and the other with my catch. |

That definitely seems like the best bet to just go ask at the shop. I’ve driven by at least one I recall right away dozens of times. I don’t have a huge selection of them so I’d likely need some anyways. |

That is some real bushwhacking! That type of fishing is not for me. It's way too frustrating with losing flies and getting the tip of my rod stuck in bushes. Or a missed hook set slinging my fly and leader up and into a bush and I lose the entire end of my setup.

I know we discussed getting kids into fishing several months ago, but I'm now thinking my son may have the attention span and interest to actually go now (4 year old).
I haven't fished in 30 years and do not have any equipment. Anyone who's been through this with kids, is a simple cheap kids starter set like this sufficient or is something better preferable? https://a.co/d/0SC44xk While we are at it, any advice on a budget friendly rod/reel for myself? **I should add, at this point probably fishing at a small lake or river at a nearby park. |

Just got back from my (usually) annual trip to SW Alaska. Got several nice 'bows but I'm really proud of this personal best lake trout. I usually go after lakers in mid June just after ice out at an Interior lake where a buddy has a cabin. I've got numerous 2-5 lb lakers but this one would likely be 9+ lb. We measured it at 34". Didn't fight as well as the rainbows. Certainly didn't jump. But it was still a great fish.

Nice fish. Never caught a laker, not yet anyway. Caught a bunch of splake. I think they probably fight about the same; just kind of pull and roll around.
