The old Geezers 70's and 80's Megathread

The Suzzane Somers thread got me thinking about a conversation I was having with one of my friends about how awesome it was to be alive in the 70s and 80s. You try telling younger generations about it but it’s impossible. For starters testosterone levels were WAY, WAY higher back then. There were very few girly men like we have so many of today. Much higher levels of T and no cell phones had a huge impact on your social/sex life. Everybody was fing everybody and it was awesome. Nobody was up in your business. Everyone knew what they were and what bathroom to use. Fat people were few and far between. Teenage years were amazing. Cruising every Friday night with people bringing out all their bad rides and the girls all sexied up. Kegers every friggen weekend. The music was so much better too. Still remember going to Van Halen’s first tour. It didn’t cost anything to see those bands back then. As a young adult the party for me just continued as I went into health clubs. Once again everybody was doing everybody. The parties after we closed the club, just wow. When I moved to the bay area from Florida it just continued. I remember when the Exotic Erotic ball was a company function and we took 10 limos to the city filled with teenage girls in their sexiest lingerie. Can you imagine that happening today? Sadly that way of life ended with Anita Hill and the invention of the smart phone amongst other things. I will be forever grateful to god for being able to grow up during that time. I feel so bad for the kids coming up today, there’s just no comparison.

Yep it was bought a lot in kegs for parties as it was cheap but better than Milwaukee's Best, Old Milwaukee, Papst, red white and blue.

Yea, that happened.

I know you don't like me and that is fine but pretending we don't live in an age where people call the police on anything and everything is to not be rooted in reality.

They don't say they are playing....they say they are "up to no good" and when we ask what exactly they are doing that is suspicious they do not have a great answer. They also tell us "they don't belong around here" because people think their neighborhood is just for them. Or "there have been break ins in the area" connecting these random kids doing nothing wrong to crimes that may or may not even happened.

This trend has become literally famous with everyone talking about Karens getting in the business of people doing nothing wrong.

I have been doing this for a decade but I don't know what I am talking about.

How about Old English 800. Good god that stuff was horrible.

Bud was most of the keggers I went to. For some reason I was on a Heinken kick forever light and dark with an occasional Moosehead.

Crazy to think how long beer has existed and it's basically sucked for the vast majority of that time.... not sure I know anyone who loves a domestic light lager, it just gets the job done if you can tolerate drinking 30 of them.

Think of Boulevard's most basic beers... Pale Ale is significantly better than any light lager bullshit out there, and it's only been around since 1989 or so..... and it's not even THAT good.

Never tried it but when we were 16 my buddies had a sister who was 21 and would buy us a couple of sixs of Miller Malt Liquor. That was enough to light us up quickly.

Yea we have an Ontap right down the street with 40 beers most of them amazing. I have been getting into sours lately. Side peach from Prairie was the last one I tried, pretty friggen good. Evens things out when I'm drinking the Bourbon Barrel Quad from Boulevard.

I was am an 80's/90's kid. Honestly, I feel like the 80's/90's were about the same as folks have described the 70's/80's. (social media wasn't really a thing until after 2003?) When I left the house I was pretty much left to my own devices. The source of the change is different in my head though. Cell phones changed everything. When you left your house, you were free. No one expected to get a hold of you. If you and your buddies got yourselves into trouble, guess what? Figure it out, because no one was coming to save you. Everyone had a higher level of independence then they do now.

Born in 1983 here and I think we came along at an interesting time straddling both analog and digital during very formative years. I think we got the charm of physical media even as we were on the front lines of transitioning to digital media and social media and instant communication.

The Oregan Trail generation or sometimes referred to as Generation Catalano.

I would say we have more in common with our older peers than our younger ones though.

Yep... didn't have cell phones for most of childhood, had computer games and the early Nintendo and so forth, but it wasn't an obsession by any means.

Listened to cassette tapes (and maybe even 8 track) and probably even had cassettes in your first car... then CDs, then mp3s.

Had options of 80s/90s sitcoms, but again, wasn't the one thing that dominated your life like all of the streaming and social media options today.

Dial-up internet in the early-mid 90s. I was calling my parents to pick me up from work from a pay phone in ~1995.

It seems so ancient when typing it out...

You were the person I had in mind when I wrote this that I am pretty sure was in the exact same era.

I remember AOL and Prodigy as well as dial up BBS connecting at 28.8k.

Lots of computer games especially Sierra games with King's Quest and Space Quest.

Lots of fond memories there. Some good music in the early and mid 90's
