IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Ok. I can understand why someone would argue in favor of Rodgers, Watson and Wilson above Allen.

But that still makes Allen a top 5 QB in this league.

Is top 5 no longer special? Does competing for the #2 spot behind Mahomes mean nothing?

You have to BE Mahomes now or you're no good? Cuz that's the shark that Chiefsplanet constantly jumps.
I've been saying this for quite some time.

Stats are great. Stats get players paid. Stats have built a billion dollar fantasy football industry. Stats lie though, and I want a guy that can not only have the stats but transcend them with his ability to will his team to win when they need it most. And man is it great to say my team has that guy and everyone else is chasing him.
except that Alex never really looked like a great QB. He never made the great throws, he rarely led the big comeback. He was solid, dependable, consistent. He was never exceptional.

Of course he was going to be exposed in postseason play. Of course he was.

Guys like Allen, Herbert, Mayfield, Watson, all have moments in which they transcend just playing the position and make 'wow' plays. All will need to prove they can be consistent as well, but they have that extra ability. Rivers had that ability, but also would choke in the big moments just as often as not, and that's why he never won a championship.

None of these guys are Mahomes, though. None of them. Chiefs fans have gotten so spoiled so quickly though that many are unable to register that some of these other young guys are real good and have potential to be great; they just won't be Mahomes. Nobody is.

don't become one of those guys, because being spoiled implies that I don't appreciate Mahomes and What he's done for Chiefs considering the long standing suffering playoff failure before Patrick.

If someone is a spoiled Chiefs Fan then they're bandwagoners

Watson is a clear top 5 QB in this league.

Herbert, Allen, and Mayfield are guys I would debate after the top ten. Good players though.

I think the biggest problem is everyone already knows who Mahomes is and everyone is guessing what might become of everyone else.

I always see a lot of "not YET" kind of remarks that tend to get lost in these discussions.... yeah, Allen has some great qualities and some great stats, etc; but there's a huge difference between being "Rivers great" or playoff great, and we can only guess which one he'll be at this point.

I don't think it's an inability to assess any QB who won't live up to Mahomes... some people are simply waiting for them to prove what kind of QB they really are.

This isn't 2010 when you had 3 AFC QBs who had been to multiple SBs and won several in that decade... being the 2nd or 3rd best QB in the conference means jack shit right now, because it's only Mahomes who's proven he can win a SB. And that's not bashing the other QBs, it's simply the truth.

What I love about him not being super high up on the vertical axis is that he remains consistent with his depth of target regardless.

If I was a DC, I'd think of this chart and say, "look, we just smacked Josh, so he's probably pissed and going to fling it on the next play or two. Drop a safety deep right after he snaps this one."

I agree.

Just because Mahomes is my QB doesn’t mean I have to suck the dicks of everybody or else I’m a spoiled fan.

Real Chiefs fans won’t be spoiled until Mahomes is gone and we’ve drafted another star QB immediately after.

We suffered enough that we were bound to get a good one eventually.

Two in a row would be spoiling us.

AFTER the top-10? How in the world does your list of the top-2o QBs in the NFL NOT include at least one if not 2 of those guys?

He might take a step back next year statistically, but ya’ll hatin on Herbert.

He’s good. He’s way better than Rivers was the last 10 years.
