There is a distinct possibility, based on the remaining schedule and matchups, that KC and Denver should BOTH play for the tie in their Week 18 matchup.

-KC, in order to edge out Buffalo for the # 1 seed by being a half game up on them, instead of both having identical records which would give Buffalo the top seed and drop KC to the dreaded 2 seed with no bye.

-Denver, in order to edge out Cincinnati for the # 7 seed, by also being a half game up on them with a tie against KC, should Denver end up losing at Cinci next week (very real possibility).

This would mutually benefit both teams, sportsmanship aside, and is a scenario that could definitely materialize. Just look at the remaining schedule.

I suppose the league wouldn't take kindly to it, but imagine if both coaches adopted this "guaranteed" strategy, if the situation dictates.

Take it to OT, run the ball, 3 and out or so, repeat as needed, and let the clock expire! Win-win, to the detriment of Buffalo and Cinci!

That's actually....quite astute.

If the Bills finish 14-3 the Chiefs can go 14-2-1 and still get the one seed. Then they wouldn't have to beat Denver.....

Hoping it doesn't get to this (ie: KC already clinched), but see if I'm right in two weeks lol

I can’t think of a funnier way for Cinci to miss the playoffs than the Chiefs and Broncos conspiring to intentionally tie

I think if it really came down to it, Andy and Payton wouldn't come right out and say it but, there would be a lot of very conservative football and winking and nodding with the playcalls.

Particularly with both wanting to get healthy before the playoffs.

There's zero chance the NFL would let that happen. Both teams would get penalized if they actually did that.

The same thing happened with Chargers and Raiders a couple of years ago, but the Chargers coach decided to start calling timeouts at the end and ended up losing out on the playoffs.

Well, this has happened many times in pro sports like NHL or the global sport of soccer, including the World Cup etc. Granted, these sports are more geared towards ties as a result (or playing for overtime to secure the extra point), but why should the NFL game be treated to such a different standard than other pro leagues. Basically, both teams earned the right to play conservatively, towards the mutual benefit of both.

I mean no one would bat an eyelash if the same thing happened in an NHL regular season game, or a MLS game, in order for both teams to yield a positive result for their side. It’s happened often over the years, across different leagues and tournaments. No penalty for any team from their respective pro leagues.

If Bills or Bengals don’t like it, should’ve won a bit more so they’re not in that position!

You know Bart is the one who sent that to Roger with a note saying, enough of this BS. We all know it’s rigged for rating. Just have the Jets beat the Bills and let us win the next two and I won’t embarrass you.
