So lets talk some legit options for our pick.

So with Breeland coming back that pretty much leaves us open to take the best player on the board.

I'd like in this thread to post some videos and such since in a lot of threads there are questions about how good a guy is and what he can do so twitter and youtube of course are great for vids.

Even though I've pined for Willie Gay quite a bit there are numerous other guys I'd be fine with using our pick on because well they'd be fine fits.

So I'll start with some Willie Gay video since I've been asked a few times what he's good at...

I think Ruiz is. But that's it. I think the OT's will all be gone by our pick.

Just because he is the top ranked prospect at his position doesn’t make him a first round talent. I think the Chiefs would be overlooking a lot of talent at other positions if they settle for Ruiz at #32. Also, the drop off from Ruiz to a couple other guys at Center isn’t so drastic that you could not find a solid contributor from rounds 2 to 4.
If you can pick up a franchise receiver, or running back or let alone a future Franchise tackle or Defensive End at the same spot, you go with that pick every time. You can fill needs through free agency and undrafted free agency let alone use some of your lower round picks. You don’t settle for need with your top pick.

I don't care what position the player is outside QB, you TAKE him at #32. We have two 1 year contracts at WR in our top 4 who likely will be gone after this season. We have ZERO elite HB's on the roster that opposing defenses respect. Our interior line is barely adequate on their best day. Our LB's need an overhaul with 1 or two of them worth keeping around. We need a third safety in Spag's scheme to allow Mathieu to move around and play to his full potential. And CB's have zero depth and an injury or two would hurt bad.

I don’t think anybody is saying that. He’s a 1st round IOL because he’s a really good prospect. Many have him inside their top 32. I can understand if somebody has him outside of that and between that and positional value won’t like him at 32, but the consensus is he’s a 1st round player.

I know a lot of posters don't want to believe this, but this is still an option... until it is not...

From Nate Taylor's Q&A on The Athletic, published yesterday:
Quote:
Is there any chance that Chris Jones enters next season still on the franchise tag? — Evan W.

The odds of that, I believe, are still low. The Chiefs are entering the next natural deadline to reach a conclusion with Jones with the start of the draft just 13 days away. As I’ve reported before, Jones doesn’t want to play next season on the franchise tag, a one-year salary of $16.1 million, since he desires long-term financial security. The Chiefs have expressed a desire to sign Jones to an extension, although one source last month described the ongoing negotiations as “neutral.”

The Chiefs still need to create more salary cap space ahead of the draft, and the team could add more flexibility in two ways. An extension with Jones would lower his cap hit for next season. Or they could trade Jones, likely ahead of the draft, to free up $16.1 million. Last year, the Chiefs acquired star defensive end Frank Clark, who was franchised-tagged by the Seattle Seahawks, just two days before the start of the draft.

What?

The Chiefs have 3 options:

1. Extend Chris Jones
2. Allow him to play on the Franchise Tag
3. Trade him to another team

Those options haven't changed at all this year.

IOL was historically undervalued but as more teams place an emphasis on interior pass rush, due to the amount of mobile QB’s, IOL becomes increasingly more important.

With the best franchise QB in the NFL (who is also mobile), if they find a too good to pass up IOL in the 1st I would not be disappointed.

And that is what I just said(It says all three things in that clip by Taylor). Many here say we are not trading him, and they may be right. But it is still an option.

I wonder if we could trade back and still get Reagor. You can pick him up , granlb a RB at the end of the 2nd then address OL or LB in the 3rd.

He’s gained momentum since the new year, but although he’s appeared at the bottom of the 1st in a lot of mocks, he’s a 2nd round grade in most scouting reports. No way he’s a consensus 1st round player. I see as many reports/mocks that hold Cushenberry in higher esteem and no way he sniffs a 1st round grade.

Now go make your Jaguars pick in the CP mock....!!

I had NFL Network on in the background last night, and what do you know? A replay of Super Bowl 54! Well, it IS the 8000th time I've watched this, but... ehh, why not?

When I turned it on, it was at the start of the 4th quarter, on the drive that ended in Mahomes' 2nd INT. On that drive there was a sack by Buckner. It occurs at the 1:19:45 mark

I know Buckner is a great player. I get that. But... holy shit. Doctor was a goddamn turnstile. And what's worse is that Reiter has a chance to slow Buckner down or at the very least redirect him with one clean shove. That would've been enough time for Mahomes to go, "Shit... better get out of here." If LDT and Reiter are both lucky, they would have held up him together, but with a player like Buckner, he probably still gets free eventually.

And I know it's one play in the context of a game. But I've seen enough of this throughout the year. LDT wasn't that great. And Reiter was often just out of his element.

Fixing that would be lovely. I don't care if that's using the same players (maybe LDT just needs to be 100% healthy) going to depth on the team (Allegretti, Hunter, Rankin, etc.) or using a draft pick/free agency. But we've got to get better play from our line in situations like that.

Mocks were low on Mahomes until just before the 2017 draft..and that was only because ESPN and guys like that realized Mahomes was going to get picked high due to his team visits.

Mocks depend on a few personalities...there's a lot of group think. What the actual NFL teams think will be different than what Kiper, McShay are saying.

I personally am very high on Cushenberry. The Senior Bowl he performed against the top DL guys like Kinlaw.

There’s no need to go line with the first IMO, top talent will almost certainly be around in the second and maybe even third rounds

Let Veach take a RB wherever he wants, but that line has to be addressed with a top 3 pick

I think that's probably true.

And perhaps as late as the 4th.

I'd like to go CB in the first, personally.

I think the Queen/Murray level LB'ers will be gone by 32.
