Open Carry

My last two trips to our little town of Branson West resulted in seeing private citizens with a pistol holstered.

I was right behind one in line at the bank and the other one came in to shoot the shit with the barber cutting my hair. The only thing holding the second guys gun in the holster was gravity, no strap.

I am pro gun and all for peoples rights, but why? Why does someone feel they need to be packing heat while running errands?

It makes me pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Is this person stable enough to packing heat? Is he or she sober? Are they worried about a jealous lover or spouse gunning them down? Is there going to be a shootout?

What is your opinion? Are we all going to have to be packing soon? Are we going to regress to 200 years ago, like the wild west?

Who vetted this person to have this weapon in public?

I use to work in downtown Salt Lake City at the headquarters of a bank. So many of my colleagues carried. We weren’t a branch, but if anyone tried to walk in and start something, they could kiss their ass goodbye.

Concealed I carry a G19

Open carry G20

10mm in Buffalo Bore is reputed to do very well against dangerous game but I have no personal experience.

The velocity/energy from a rifle round is preferred but when not practical, Id not go smaller than the 10mm

I can get 6 shots off in the time a .44 gets off 3.

No disrespect to others who view things differently. That’s just my $.02.
This is a long but interesting chat Ron Spoomer has with Phil Shoemaker Master Alaskan Guide. He has some interesting ideas on protection guns in Bear country. I found it very interesting with some good stories mixed in. Well worth the time.

I've always wondered why "Open Carry"? ...Bank should be a definite No IMO

Isn't better? more practical? to "Conceal Carry"?

Unless, I suppose you're a cowboy, then it looks super cool.

Looks like open carry of a toy gun didn't work out so well. Add in one of many thousands of idiots who carry, and you get a disaster.

Washington teen returning replica gun to store shot dead by security guard

Ateenager trying to return a malfunctioning replica gun that shoots plastic projectiles to a sporting goods store in Washington state recently was shot to death by an off-duty security guard who believed the boy was holding a real gun and planned to rob the business, according to authorities.

The man arrested in the killing, 51-year-old Aaron Brown Myers, told police that he wasn’t working at the time he fatally shot Hazrat Ali Rohani, who was returning a malfunctioning airsoft gun to the Big 5 sporting goods store in the community of Renton. But he had offered to keep watch due to alleged rising crime in the area.

Investigators said security footage, which hasn’t been publicly released, contradicted Myers’ statements to police, leading to his arrest.

As described by police, Rohani’s death perpetuates a spate of shootings across the US that have victimized people who were killed while approaching homes or businesses for an ultimately innocent reason...........

More at the kink.

That's not really what this thread is about, IMO.
That sounds like it was a dumb security guard. I mean, aren't a lot of security guards just wanna be cops anyway?

But who knows how the kid was carrying the toy gun. And aren't even air soft guns supposed to have orange on the end? Kid could be at fault, too. I guess we need to know more.

The first story is almost never the correct one, especially in gun-related cases.

Exactly. Kid probably hand the thing in his hand. While I'd like to think the guard could have drawn and first challenged him verbally instead of airing him out, seriously, if you're returning something that looks like a gun to a store, put it in a ****ing bag or case. That's Darwin Award level dumb.

Could have carried it in his waistband couldn't he? But your probably right, it's all the kids fault. I'm sure he was just asking for it anyways.

If he'd had the damned thing in some sort of container, he wouldn't have gotten shot. Does that mean he's responsible for pulling the trigger? No. But he did needlessly invite problems doing what he did. I got mugged one night in a shitty Chicago neighborhood walking home from a bar, alone and staggering drunk at 4:00 in the morning. I certainly didn't mug myself, but I did hang great big MUG ME sign around my neck. Or whatever "mug me" translates to in Spanish.

Sometimes when you put yourself in harm's way, harm ****s you.

Really? In my experience it has nothing to do with "cowboys" or whatever. Do these things really scare you regardless of open v concealed? If you are caught in the middle of a violent crime between a wolf and sheep dog and you are the sheep, I imagine you will be hugging the sheepdog when the dust settles.
