It might be time to have a talk about Travis Kelce

He looks old and tired. I'm afraid we're seeing a very steep decline from one of the best TEs in NFL history.

Last year he started slow, but at least he was getting targeted. 26 through his first 3 games.

This year?

TWELVE TARGETS.

Rash is eating into his workload, there have been quite a few instance where 87 was wide open and Pat went to Rice. Or where had Pat waited another half-second, Travis was open.

Patience. It's coming.

I'm not concerned, but Patrick is holding the offense back right now.
If I am another team in the AFC I’m pissed. We just beat the best team in the AFC last year for a 2nd straight time, beat the one team that has given us most problems the last few years and are sitting at 3-0 despite Kelce and Mahomes not playing like they usually do.

This team used to be completely reliant on those 2 guys. Now they are not.

These guys will figure it out and start heating up at some point, and the rest of the team playing so well is a huge added bonus.

I fixed it. I benched Kelce on my fantasy team against the Chargers. Now he should feast. You’re welcome.

Well obviously whether we are 'concerned' or not doesn't really matter.

He had a good year last year, but I thought he looked different and I think he looks much worse this year.

Does that mean he can't be a difference maker in the post season... No.

Yes, we've seen Mahomes have stretches where he's looked out if sync, but we haven't really seen stretches where Travis has looked like this or had several games in a row with so few catches/yards.

I think it is what it is. I'm sure at some point he will have better games. If nothing else, at some point, some D is going to test out whether they really need to be paying so much attention to him.

Better LT play could no doubt help the whole offense including getting Travis more targets/receptions.

Yeah, I'm not saying he looks prime, or even close. Obviously he looks slower, in particular his initial acceleration off the line looks slower. And he definitely is walking off some plays. But he looked that way early last season. And at some point he 'woke up.'

I just think he'll start looking more like himself as the season progresses.

It might be time to have a talk about Travis Kelce

He’s been out of shape (football shape) for years. That’s the one narrative I find irritating, as if he quit some strict diet and exercise regimen. Do people not recall how he looked in his beach pictures right after the Super Bowl last season?

Lower usage isn’t a bad thing if we keep winning games. I actually would love to see us work Wiley in more and more because I don’t think gray will ever be a targets guy.

Save him up for the big stretch. Get mahomes right. Get our damn vertical game going again. Get Pacheco healthy. We gotta fix the things around him too. Kelce will be a beast in the final stretch but unfortunately will have to deal with all the narratives until he does. I’ve said before… I am very ok with us really dialing back his usage because I’d rather he play several more years on less usage than trying to force usage on him now
