There's life outside of obsessing over the Chiefs

Something I noticed about myself and might be a decent reminder to someone who needs to hear it.

I noticed i was obsessing over the chance for a 3-peat so much it was affecting my overall well-being, and failing that quest definitely hurt. And with the rest of the NFL fans taking their victory lap over our demise, Kelce potentially retiring, and the offseason pundits surely expecting us to fail next year, it would be really easy to get too caught up in all the negativity and hate surrounding the Chiefs, caring too much about what everyone else thinks.

I think I'm gonna chill this offseason. Obviously I'll be checking if Kelce retires and watching the offseason moves, but otherwise I'll be more lax about it. People are gonna say some dumb shit about us this offseason for sure, and it's just not worth getting riled up over.

It’s been a hell of a ride. It took 50 years for this to happen and I’m hoping the ride isn’t over yet.

I had a meltdown irl after that steelers debacle back in like 2016 and I promised myself and my gf (now wife) I'd never do it again.

Ive gotten a little mad here and there when I lose a sports bet in a ridiculous fashion, but I wasn't mad Sunday night. Sure, I was a little bummed but life goes on.

It was far more upsetting to lose to Brady in 2020. Yeah Hurts got us. Now his ceilings Eli Manning.

I just smashed my TV in front of 30 guests at my party because of the game. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at a hotel. This team has ruined my life and my party. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye Chiefs. I am no longer a fan.

I was more mad that it was a terrible game...all the build up to be in the SB and it wasn't even entertaining. I wanted a close, competitive game..two heavy weights duking it out.

I ended up doing work related stuff after the first drive post half-time. Chiefs looked like they weren't even interested in being there...easily the weirdest game of the Mahomes era. No energy from the onset...like they just wanted to get it over with and go home.

yeah you gotta remember none of us here are getting paid for this, this is at the end of the day a hobby. if you're not enjoying it or letting it negatively affect your life it's time to reassess and maybe take a step back. take the offseason off if you need to.

I just have fun when KC goes to the superbowl. I mean, if you win or lose the SB there is no game after that. The season is over.

I love seeing the city hyped, people in red on Super Bowl Sunday going to whatever destination they’re going to to watch the game. Planning parties and food with friends, always taking a PTO day the day after the game if we end up making it.

Win or lose it’s ****ing fun and whatever the end result is I hope we keep going

A lot of good stuff in this thread and I can relate with most of it.

I short circuited at the end of the '21 AFCCG. By that I mean I nearly passed out from how angry I had gotten. I quit social media that night and haven't been back. I also haven't been that ridiculous over anything, much less football, since. I've always been an emotional sports fan. It's my outlet because I'm not an emotional person in the day to day. I've learned to control it better since I was young, but that game messed me up. I couldn't comprehend it.

Someone said at least we aren't Bills fans. My GF's dad, sister, and bro in law and her extended family are all from upstate. I think about her dad and how he's getting older and has never seen the Bills do it. I just wish it wouldn't come at our expense for them to win, I want him to feel that feeling because he is a great guy and deserves it.

The feeling. Like most of us here I was starting to think I would never get to feel it for the Chiefs. I felt it for KU, I felt it for the Royals, but the Super Bowl Champion is the king of the world. It took until I had turned 42 for the first, but I've gotten to feel it 3 times in 5 years. I'm greedy as hell for it, so I want more, but if this is all there is (I don't think it is) I'm good. I think after LIV I made the comment that I could die happy now.

I teach 7th grade. The hardest part of these losses is dealing with the constant snark the next day. I live in the middle of PA so there are a fair number of Eagles fans including one of my good friends who I teach with. At school the next day I decided that I hate it when people have tried to minimize Chiefs Super Bowl wins so I made sure to congratulate all of those kids and teachers who are Eagles fans and point out how special the feeling is. I took whatever trash they wanted to talk because that's the transaction, but they were all pretty cool once I congratulated them. To the few Chiefs fans I said, get over it. No one feels sorry for us. We've had it good and there is more to come. We've felt the feeling. To the shit head Steelers fans I kindly invited them to shut their mouths (It's hard for them to understand it isn't always about them).

What was most striking though was standing in the hallway next to my friend the Eagles fan. Every kid who walked by had smart ass comments to me about the score and shitty smirks on their faces. No one high fived my friend or congratulated him. I asked one class why they did that. They said it's more fun to tease. It's a sad world. But hey, I've still had that feeling.

It's OK to be disappointed...that's part of fandom.

Honestly, 3 SB's in a row...it wasnt as exciting. It was cool but nothing like the first one of Mahomes' career. That was wildly fun...

Chiefs could never return to the SB and I'd still feel like my fandom experience is complete...we got everything we always wanted...actually more.

I’m superstitious as all get out during the playoffs. As I was completing my ridiculous workout Sunday morning I thought man I don’t have the hunger like I did. I completed it for superstitions sake and met my goals. It just felt flat though.

I euthanized my dog so they don't have to live with the utter disappointment of a lack of Chiefs threepeat. RIP Marty Barkenheimer.
