Guys aged 65+ what was it like to be a young man in the 80's?

Something to take my mind off the events of this past weekend....

Older dudes, what was it like to be an adult the 80s?

Was it like printing money?

Did you have a Camaro? A van? A Nissan Pulsar?

Did you try the cocaine?

Did you go to US festival?

Other than the Chiefs being in the abyss, what was it like?

Give us all the good stuff.

Same here. And the Fe in Olathe. Windows rolled down cranking up some Van Halen on the Alpine in my Honda Prelude. Had under 21 dance clubs in the county in the late 80’s as well. Best of times.

I am 61 and the 80's were incredible! Yes, I smoked weed, did cocaine and LSD. I saw so many concerts during that timeline. Ozzy, KISS, Accept, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Journey, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Krokus, Ted Nugent, Twisted Sister - riding to show in a Trans Am, Aldo Nova, Blue Oyster Cult, Rush, Quiet Riot, Heart, REO Speedwagon, Styx, King Kobra, Iron Maiden, Poison, you get the point Best of times! Fastway, also! Triumph too! Man the 80's ROCKED!

Your math is a little off. You don't need to be 65+ to have been an adult in the 80s.

I graduated high school in '83, did a semester of college, ran out of money and joined the Navy, which took me through the end of the decade. So my 80s included lots of travel, lots of beer, a few hookers, the abject poverty that comes from being married as an E-nothing, the resulting failed marriage, and perhaps the worst mistake I ever made, when, up for shore duty, I requested the closest base to Missouri, and chose Great Lakes over a Naval Air Station in Memphis. 38 years later, I'm still stuck in Illinois.

So overall it sucked, but there were some wonderful moments. I'm been to a couple of dozen different port cities on four continents. I've walked the streets of Rio, Rome, Barcelona and Nice. I've seen the Iowa fire her 16 inch guns, which will never happen again. I've seen the sun rise over Vesuvius from the Bay of Naples.

Things from the 80s that seem unimaginable today: no home computers; no internet; no social media; no ChiefsPlanet!; no cellphones, and making numerous cross country drives without one (now I feel naked if I forget the damned thing when I go to the grocery store); taping shows onto a VCR tape trying to cut out commercials without forgetting to hit the record button when the commercials ended; enjoyable airport experiences and commercial flights; being able to smoke wherever the hell you wanted to; getting charged extra for long distance calls; assembling all the components for a stacked home stereo system in case with glass doors; cassette players eating the goddamn tape, and having to wind it back in with a pencil; thinking that Alpine stereo I got installed in my Cutlass was the greatest thing ever. The Chiefs sucked, Mizzou sucked, but the Royals and Cardinals were good. And the country as a whole was a much nicer, safer, better place.

There are a lot of things I miss from back then, but not enough to want to life it over.

As for festivals, I was at this one! 1983

https://www.setlist.fm/festival/1983...-63d6ca5b.html

I was with 2 girls I worked with for this festival. No, I did not sleep with either of them but, we were tripping on LSD crossing the Tennessee river bridge and I had to keep the driver of that old Ford truck in the here and now to cross it! Great times! I am now married to a wonderful wife and those times were so very long ago. In short, I grew up!

We weren't far off in time. I graduated high school in '79 and spent the entirety of the 80s in college and in the Air Force. I really miss the camaraderie of all the people I served with.

I wouldn’t trade my life but if I could be any age at any time for say a month, I’d be in my 20’s in the 80’s. As it was, I had a ton of fun and nothing but great memories from that decade. But alas, I was 5-14. Still will take 80’s music over anything to this day.

Got divorced in the early eighties, found my current wife in the latter '80s, and what a time in between. Excellent decade.
